A few weeks back I had a rectal bleed, the hospital Dr thought was a diverticular bleed. Still waiting for sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy. Have been experiencing, on my left side only, a burning soreness at waist level going round to the back and front and down my abdomen by hip. Tops of legs also feel a bit prickly at times. This bothers me when sitting down and if I lie on my left side too long, but not when standing up or walking. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thank you.

Diverticulitus?
Hi Dordle, I too suffer from diverticula disease, the pain in on my left side and can be very debilitating, if you have divaticulitus it’s usually treated with a course of antibiotics. My doctor gave me painkillers that dissolve under the tongue as paracetamol wasn’t touching the pain. But the best way is to eat smaller bland meals when it flares up and plenty of rest, also try a hot water bottle on the area as it sometimes helps. Sorry I couldn’t be much help, just wanted you to know your not alone and there are a lot of kind knowledgeable people on this site, so your in the right place. Hope you feel better soon
Thank you so much Crimmy. Difficult when you have to speak to Dr on phone. One yesterday said it was muscle pain or a pinched nerve! My usual Dr unavailable unfortunately. Will have to try for antibiotics. Yes, trying to be careful what I eat and drink plenty of fluids. Will try the hot water bottle. Keep warm!
Hi sounds like DV. Please make sure you avoid like the plague anything with seeds, skins or pips etc. This means no strawberries or granary bread etc.. if one of these finds its way to a DV you could form an abscess, and this is not good.
You will soon know the extent of DV if you have it. If it’s pan DV you need to extra careful with your diet
Thank you very much for your helpful reply. Have had IBS for years and had to give up granary bread; will be very careful what I eat.
