Has anybody taken Alflorex for IBS and has it helped? I bought some and took a tablet yesterday but it's given me stomach ache, acidity and gas. I wondered if this is just until my gut gets used to it. If so, how long does the discomfort last?

Anyone taking Alflorex?
I think its about 4-6 weeks they say changes might happen. It works well for me for bloating and gas and I notice a difference when I don't take it for those two things but for me it doesn't help with upset stomachs or constipation anymore but I've had it for a year or two now
Good morning I took it for IBSD and was fine for the first few days. I then suffered with terrible stomach cramps and diarrhoea, I tried to persevere but the bloating, pain and diarrhoea became worse, so unfortunately I had to stop taking it. I was so disappointed, bad I stuck with it for 6 weeks, but could not carry on. I know it works for others but for me, sadly it did not. I hope it works for you xx
Thanks Claire. I had read that Alflorex was some sort of wonder pill for us IBS sufferers but obviously not. I have now gone back to my previous probiotic Aloe Pura complex. Very gentle and although it doesn't stop the symptoms completely it helps with the stomach cramps and is better than nothing. I just thought Alflorex may be worth a try but after just one day of bloating, gas, stomach ache and acidity, and after reading your post, I am not going to chance making it worse. Thank you for your reply. Good luck. If you haven't already tried the aloe Pura pills, Holland and Barrett stock it. Far cheaper than Alflorex too. Xx
Good morning I am so sorry if I have put you off, but quite honestly it did not work for me, but I know it does for some people. I have gone back to Acidophilus non dairy from Holland and Barrett, which I have taken for 4 year's. I was so hopeful that Alflorex was going to work, and maybe if I had carried on it would have, but I could not take the discomfort anymore. The care line were excellent and so supportive, but unfortunately it did not suit me. If you can carry on I would give it a little longer. Good luck xx
Have just bought Holland and Barrett acidophilus with their 1p sale, so 200 tablets. I shall keep the Alflorex and maybe try again one day but for now, shall try these. Thank you Claire. I really felt rough after just one Alflorex. Did not take yesterday and fine without it. Went back to my previous pills but trying to find 'the one' that works best for me. Xx
I'm currently trying Alforex, I'm into my second month's supply now. Like many others I had a bad time on it in the first few weeks, and very nearly gave up - gave me awful cramps, wind etc.
As of now, all that has calmed down. I think it has helped with pain levels, and has reduced severity/length of flare ups.
Maybe I ought to give it a fair chance. Lockdown might be good time as nothing else planned lol. Thanks Ricky.
It did nothing for me and expensive so have gone back to another probiotic which works OK and is 3 times as cheap
I'm on week 6 of Alflorex and overall I'm no better, no worse. It will be interesting to see how we all get on if we persevere.
Yes I’m taking alflorex it took about 3/4 weeks for my stomach to take to it. I nearly gave up but persevered. I’m very glad I did as I’ve now been regularly taking them and hardly had any IBS now and again it can flare but maybe in 3 months I’ve had 2 episodes after eating something I probably shouldn’t have. Hope this is helpful.
I meant to reply to Golfinguk about this. I had to take a heavy dose of antibiotics in the middle of a trial of Alflorex, so I expected to have to start again from scratch. After a couple of months, my IBSD seems to have settled down, though replaced by IBSC, but not nearly as bad.
I guess some things work for some people and other things for others, and it is difficult to predict. There are other probiotics available which may be more suitable: I have used Nature's Best Acidophilus for years, but the effect seemed to be waning, and I have a friend who swears by Bio-Kult - both worth a try.
I have not been diagnosed yet with IBS but have a lot of the symptoms. I am taking Alflorex and thought at first it was a miracle but sadly seems to have waned. I had a telephone consultation recently with gastroenterologist in NHS hospital in London who suggested Symprove for 6 to 8 weeks. She said it has more scientific testing etc. However it’s very costly and to date have not tried it.
I am taking Alflorex and didn't get any side effects. It starting working for me after about a week. However, it can take up to a couple of months to work for some people and some people might get side effects which settle after a while. If you need support you can contact the supplier on ask@precisionbiotics.com. They have a team who can give you help through the process. Hope you are doing better on it now.
