For those taking Alflorex, did it worsen your symptoms at first before settling?I started them but had terrible diarrhoea so stopped them. I am nervous about re-starting them.
Thanks

I took it for a month during which time I had several bad days & flare ups. I couldn't say if Alflorex attributed to these but it definitely didn't improve things.
It definitely affected my bowels and made me more prone to constipation. It did resolve itself though.
No i had no side effects at all.
I've been taking it for over a year. No diarrhoea but just recently, I've become constipated again. No idea if it could be the cause, but doubt it, after a year.
Hi I had no adverse reactions everyone reacts differently don't they.
I had no side effects. Everyone is different though. Some people need to go through a bedding in period. If you are concerned, Precision Biotics, the makers, have a help line.
The patient leaflet supplied by Precision Biotics and a recent small-scale German study suggest that the benefits are cumulative over an 8-week period so it probably makes sense to stick with Alflorex for a while if you can put up with the symptoms which are supposed to be mild and temporary, although everyone is different. Having said that, you won't do yourself any harm by not taking them.
I’ve been taking Alflorex since early summer. I have ibs-d. My insides were churning and uncomfortable but within hours of taking my first Alflorex I felt a lot calmer. I thought I must be imagining it but after a couple of days I felt the best I had for an awful long time. I was having one bm a day which was perfectly normal, something that hadn’t happened for years. This lasted for about three weeks and then it gradually wore off. I was so disappointed when things went back to my version of normal. I then tried Ferrocalm but I had continual cramps while taking it and gave up on it. I then thought about it and realised that although Alflorex didn’t stop the frequency and urgency that I’m looking for, I wasn’t so uncomfortable whilst taking it. So I now take one each night and two loperamide if needed of a morning depending on what I’m doing that day. After years of suffering ibs and I mean suffering, I have found that this is the only way to have a reasonably normal life. So maybe if you find that Alflorex doesn’t suit you something like Ferrocalm might. I would encourage you to stick with it for a while though as it might take your body a few weeks to get used to it.
It bungs me up.
Thanks for all comments on this topic. I have currently stopped Alflorex but will consider again soon
