Constant sore and dry throat. On lansoprazole

I was on tablets that gave me a sore and dry throat. I stopped taking these and my throat was still so sore this has gone on for about 6 months now and I got put on lansoprazole for acid reflux. They are doing nothing and my throat is so sore and dry. I read that this can be side effects of taking lansoprazole. Has anyone else had this? I’m going out of my mind with worry!!

Hi, I was on lansoprazol for about 3 years and my throat was always sore and dry, I had to come off them for 2 weeks because I was having a colonoscopy. When I came off them my throat seemed to have improved and I have stopped taking them, these tablets have had a lot of bad press and though everyone is different I certainly won’t be taking them again, I just take gaviscon extra when I have reflux now. Hope you find some answers and feel better soon

Thank you so much for a quick reply. This really does put my mind at ease. How long did it take for you throat to go back to normal?

I was off them 2 weeks and only really noticed that my throat and tongue didn’t feel so sore and rough when It was time to start taking them again, so it was only a short time really, but you should have a chat with your gp and ask them to maybe change you to a different poi, I wish you well

Gastric acid can give you a sore throat, you could try omeprazole

Thank you. My doctor said that they want to do the endoscopy as this all started when I took oxybutynin and it maybe has damaged my throat. But clearly lansoprazole doesn’t help.
