HI this is my second post on this great website, i would be so grateful again for any advice or help. Im really at my wits end and starting to worry, as i keep imagining the worse.
Three weeks ago i had a really bad tummy, the pain was excruiciating, i nearly passed out, couldnt get to bathroom quick enough, ate chilli didnt agree with me. ( i have always suffered with sensitive tummy, certain foods anxiety etc) It rules my life... Never been formally diagnosed with IBS, just something i keep battling on with.
Anyway, since this time my sides, under rib cage, top of thighs have all been so sore. Sometimes my back is too. Had two appointments with nurse and doc, both were emergency as the waiting list at our local GP is normally 2 to 3 weeks.
First appointment the nurse felt my tummy and prescribed Mebeverine 135mg 3 times a day. I would like to say they helped, as after a couple of days the pains were not as severe. On one day i thought i was pain free but as the day wore on, my abdomen area got again so heavy and sore.
Finally got to see doc on tuesday, who thought i had damaged my intestines, from that specific incident 3 weeks ago. He prescribed Omeprazole Capsules 20mg twice a day. Its now Friday and i feel exactly the same, actually the abdomen area pain is the same its under the ribs like heartburn, feels like something is stuck. I didnt have any problem sleeping until last night, i felt i couldnt breath properly got up and took zantac, pain went away.
I feel ok in every other form, BM are fine, no blood, no pain. Im watching what i am eating. Taking Yaklut on daily basis too.
The only way i can describe my pain is if i was starving, feels like my tummy is about to give a huge growl but it doesnt. Under my ribs feels like a tight band is pulling me in. My throat is constantly crackling now. I burp all the time.
Ive read so many terrible illnesses on the web im scaring myself, im trying to keep positive, keep going about my daily duties, which i can. I just feel sore and tired, my husband is working away and have no one to talk to nearby. My next appointment with the doc is in Nov.
Please can anyone share any light on these symptoms. Thank you

Hi hyperchick, I also have pain under my ribs, started on left, but now moves across to my right as well. After a really bad spell it feels as if my insides are bruised and swollen! Does this ring any bells with you? The things that work best for me are yoga type exercises, if you Google that you may be surprised at the relief you get. It seems to get things moving. The worse thing for me is sitting hunched up, which is what this awful condition makes us feel like doing. Hang in there and keep calm. Mine is definitely stress related, although looking back I think I've had done symptoms foyer years.
Thanks Nobiker it's so nice to know I am not alone, in a strange kinda way.
The pain you were on about is like what I am experiencing. Always under ribs, then sometimes lower left, lower right, high right and left. Yes like you my insides feel bruised and twisted feeling.
I didn't think an IBS flare up (if it is that) still to confirm it's nothing else could last as long or be as painful.
Managed to get another appointment with doc, still have to wait another 10 days.
I have been doing yoga, I love it, it is so easy to just sit and feel yucky, but I would rather like you do some form of exercising. Mind you there are days you just can't.
Also stress is a major contributor in this, I'm a born worrier. I am finding I am isolating myself from others, as I won't socialise out, for meals etc. It's a viscous circle.
Thank you for your reply, I hope you are keeping ok just now.
This all sounds familiar, I get the same pain and feeling bruised, it is just a case of finding out what upsets you and what doesn't , in my case I find Meat and any spices or sugar will set me off, so I am now a pescatarian and only eat fish. This seems to work for me. Oh and Antibiots are a no no for me too
Try and keep a diary and maybe Yoga or a Hobby to try and take your mind offand ease the stressing out. We all know how hard and scary this IBS is , but stress will make it worse.
I had the hollow hungry feeling, after tests it turned out to be acid reflux caused by a small hiatus hernia. Omeprazole took at least two weeks to work. It has to heal any damage.
I also had one very large gallstone, which resulted in my gallbladder being removed.
I don't get "that feeling" much now.
But beware. It's very hard to stop Omeprazole once you have taken it for a while. It messes up your stomach acid production. I'm down to 20mg every other day, I'm careful what I eat.
I got that pain too after my other in law died so I thought it was stress related but an ultrasound showed a gallstone. I wondered if it was pancreatitis and am waiting to see the GP again so see what the blood tests reveal. I can only say that the pain did go away - well mostly - although I do get nagging 'nips' now and again
Hi Mary07 thanks for your reply, touch wood over the last 2 days the pain is wearing off, still conscious of this pulling in feeling on both sides and under ribs but not the intense pain I had. Maybe the tablets are starting to work?
Or I have stopped worrying so much, I've been very mellow this weekend.
I have the docs next week so I am going to push for the some tests.
