FAMOTIDINE as an alternative to Cimetidine. Any side effects.

Hi everyone. I suffer from IBS and Gerd. Due to the availability issues with Cimetidine and Ranitidine I have changed to Famotidine. Would be interested to hear of any side effects you may have experienced if you have also changed from Cimetidine to Famotidine. Also do you find Famotidine effective. Thank you.

Hi guitarman49,I tried famotidine after ranitidine and then cimetidine also because of supply issues,I found it awfully to strong and made my chest go tight,where I cant take a ppi because of the side affects it gives me I've been referred back to gastro doc,where my gp has ran out of options,at the moment using gaviscon and rennie and it's awful my ibs is all over the place,hope you have better results with it 🙂

Hi Yellow-Sun , thank you for your reply . IBS is not an easy problem to manage. I have suffered both D and C for many years but currently it is relatively stable on a low acid low fat diet with the help of mebeverine and PPI's , cimetidine helped to get me through the night very effectively , Famotidine does not , at the best until 4.00am and after 1 week seems areas of my skin have become sensitive hence the question of side effects. I guess it's back to the drawing board and a discussion with my GP.

I would beinterested to hear what your gastro doc has to say.
