Hi people, this is the first time I have ever cried out to other sufferers, I started Aza just over 3 weeks ago and feel totally pants, nauseous and knackered, I have lost loads of weight and just want to stop the drug! Should I try and keep going and will the side effects get better?

Azathioprine side effects
Hi
I have a relative who has been taking this drug for three years for an autoimmune illness (not IBS - for a more serious condition) At first she was very nauseous but the side effects eventually subsided an she feels O.K. now. I hope this reassures you. I doubt if this would be prescribed for you unless it was felt to be necessary.
Best wishes,
Hi I began azathioprin almost 2 weeks ago, I have behcets syndrome. I asked for a low dose to begin with, 50 mg one every other day then, then one a day, after that not sure until Bloodtest I think. You need to take them with or after food, at the moment I am ok but seem tired and yawn all day. If my hair gets any thinner or I lose weight I'll come off it as I had this with another drug, I am petite and don't need to lose weight. Maybe you've been started on high dose? Hope things settle down for you.
Thankyou, I started one a day for a week , then 2 a day for a week then 3 a day. So probably too quick, I have reduced them myself this weekend and feel marginally better. I have Chron's but not active and these are to reduce my changes of more surgery. My first bloods were ok , the second lot a bit off and having my third lot today. Thank goodness I have a weeks holiday as I know I couldn't work, I also am sleeping for ever!
Morning. Hope things improve for you, I may not stay on this drug as although very new to it I am tired all the time too, I will give it a while , keep well X
