The examine itself is pretty quick then they keep you in recovery for as long as you want really. When you have had in done & taken to recovery, you will probably suffer stomach cramps, best advice is to walk about, get to the loo as soon as possible as you will have plenty of wind! Good Luck
Depends how busy they are and on whether or not you get any form of sedation or pain relief and on what (if anything) they find. In theory could be in and out very quickly. From being called through for the procedure to walking out the door after feedback was only 12mins for me (no sedation or gas and air etc and nothing untoward found). But because they were running late I was in the department about an hour in total. I left before the 2 previous patients because 1 was waiting for more detailed feedback and the other was being monitored following sedation.
Hi Asherleymoco, by endoscopy are you referring to camera down your throat ?
Yes, I was going to ask the same - Endoscopy (looksee into the stomach) - Colonoscope (looksee into your Large colon). Prep for endoscope was no food in the morning of my procedure but water was allowed up to a couple of hours prior. I has gas, air and sedation...….never felt a thing and it was all over in a couple of minutes. The Colonoscope is different. Bland diet for 2 to 3 days prior to procedure. Take the Moviprep the day before procedure if in the morning, or early morning if the procedure is in the afternoon. The bland diet really helps here - no explosion at all. For the procedure I had gas, air and the sedative - never felt a thing and was all over in about 5 minutes. I had sandwiches and tea afterwards. I think you're having a check of your stomach as you haven't mentioned the Moviprep - so this really is an endoscopy. Have a look at your pre admission notes (even as an outpatient there will be advice for you). If you are a little nervous you might appreciate a small sedative, but make sure someone can drive you home. Good luck.
