Does anyone share any of this..

Hi, this is not my first post, but it’s struck me that I have never read one from anyone on quite such a total of medication as me. I’ve had IBS C for over 20 years, steadily worsening. I’ve had every possible test and seen some of the top consultants in London. I’m in constant pain, always bloated and from lunchtime nearly unable to walk for abdominal pain. Vegetarian, gluten free, strict Fodmap diet, etc, etc. To function at all I take Senna, Mebeverine, 2 suppositories daily and Picolax weekly, all to avoid my chronically slow bowel from blocking altogether. All of this is prescribed and regularly monitored. There are some other things that might help but are forbidden owing to other health issues, etc.

Am I alone in all of this...it’s starting to feel like it ?

I have taken a variety of medications previously (not all at the same time) and have always stopped them when they dont help. I only take probiotics at the moment and windeze as and when I need to take one.

I highly doubt you are the only one on a lot of medication, I just think it is more uncommon.

Just a thought, have you looked at functional medicine for IBS? This is something I am starting looking into

I am currently taking Docusate twice daily, Lactulose 3 or 4 times per day, Naloxegol once a day, Prucalopride once a day, Senna twice a day, all of which are prescribed. Added to the list is 2 Kiwi fruits per day and a can of diet Coca Cola every other day. It is a lot, but, with my other health issues, unfortunately, the only combination that seems to work.

Morning,

I don’t take meds daily now as everything I have taken in the past has caused other issues To become worse to manage. I get D and C and for me the D is easier (?!?) to cope with. I use Lactulose when the C hits and have found this is the best thing for me. I do take low level pain killers (not NSIDS) when it becomes too painful. I have been taking probiotics, had some side effects at first but I’m feeling a little better so feeling hopeful.

I won’t lie, my quality of life is low at the moment, I’m hoping upcoming tests will help or that the probiotics kick in properly.

I hope you get sorted soon.

Your certainly not alone.I have suffered the same for about 4 years now. Pain most days, constipated and enormous amount of trapped wind regardless of my diet. My GP says I have slight pelvic organ prolapse causing presure on my bowel, hence consipation. I survive taking windeeze which I couldn't live without, and milk of magnesia at night to soften my stool. I also take paracetemol when pain is unbearable, but sometimes this doesn't work. The worst thing for me is pain during the night, it keeps me awake and then the next day I feel awful.

Have you tried Bodyfokus Synbiotic Active Vitality bodyfokus.co.uk/product/syn... which is a pre/pro-biotic, my wife has a slow system and it's helped her no end without any urgency, I have them and don't suffer from the pain nearly so much. It would be worth a try, let us know the outcome if you use it please.
