I’m after some advice I had the Heidelberg test a few months ago and it diagnosed low stomach acid and pyloric insufficiency but just recently I have been having horrendous heartburn and a bitter taste in my mouth along with nausea my doctor has prescribed Esomeprazole 40mg twice a day but surely that is defeating the object of low stomach acid I am really struggling as to what to do I have some betaine with pepsin tablets but they seem to make the heartburn worse. Help

Sorry to hear what you're going through. I'm not qualified but I thought I would just offer a suggestion. The Esomeprazole is for reducing stomach acid. Lansoprazole is also used for reducing stomach acid. I stopped taking it as I thought the same as you. However, it does other things too like protecting the stomach from disorders such as ulcers. Maybe a gastroenterologist would be the best person to see but take your doctor's advice on what would be the next step as you are not feeling better and need further investigation. In the meantime, eating fermented foods is excellent for low stomach acid, eg sauerkraut. Good luck.
think you are right, it defeats object of low stomach acid, anyway it is all about gut flora and diet, which doctors know nothing about, they are the wrong people, they can make it worse, they did for me
Hi just wandered if you got any relief from identifying you had low stomach acid? I am still struggling massively and considering this Heidelberg test but wandered what to do if they say low,. Hoping you have had some improvements 🤞
