I have a diagnosis of IBS.. and a Dr didn’t believe me when I told her the pain was so bad... the tests came back normal.. but the pain was horrible! Dr kept saying IBS is uncomfortable but I kept explaining it didn’t feel like my normal IBS pain... Until she treated me with an antibiotic for SIBO.. omg! Game changer! I felt SO much better!
Has this happened to anyone else?

The antibiotic was Xifaxin (Rifaximin).. I took it a couple months ago. I forget exactly when... but I haven’t had those horrible pains since! Along with the pains I was having diarrhea. I explained it all and how it was not my normal and she didn’t listen and just said that IBS can “fluctuate”. After I continually complained, she said the only thing left for her to try was the Xifaxin for SIBO. My IBS-C went from her thinking it was IBS-C/D back to just IBS-C. I haven’t had an episode of diarrhea since! And the pain is back to my normal.. actually, it has been feeling better than from before. So it has been a couple months. All in all, if you know something isn’t right, keep being persistent. You most likely are right! You know your body better than anyone else!
That's great, so pleased for you. Just wondered how long you took them for ie one week/two weeks? I think I read somewhere that they are usually given for two weeks. Did they upset your tummy at all while you were taking them? And how long did they take to start to working? Sorry for all the questions but it's unusual for people in the UK to be prescribed with them. Are you in the UK or the US?
I am in the US. And it is for 2 weeks, 3 times a day. No they did not upset my stomach that I noticed.. but then again, I had a bad stomach to begin with. I started feeling better after week 1 of taking them. And it’s ok. I’m happy to answer
Thank you so much, that's really interesting. Perhaps I will speak to my doctor about it but she is about as useful as yours, by the sounds of it! But thanks again for the information!
