Anyone else with similar symptoms?

I was diagnosed with IBS last year, I just want to see if anyone’s had similar experiences to me.. I feel bloated the majority of the time even worse just after a meal I always have the urge to belch. My stools are very mucousy, constipated last week but stools seem to be normal to pass this week however still mucousy (clean wipe too) there is obviously discomfort of bloating but occasionally do get abdominal pain. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Yes it's typical of ibs.

I'm exactly the same but get a lot of burning tummy pain right side

Hi Brainbox, like you I've got pain right side, it could be gall stones or somethingelse, so get it checked out

As for me, no 100% confirm as to what it is, just take painkillers & herbal ones

Had scan nothing seen. Paid private gastro guy! He says IBS. Gone dairy free and pain has reduced so much so sticking with that at the mo. Thanks for responding

You're welcome, glad it's reduced, I'm also lactose intolerant. I've not had a scan, all the surgery want me to keep on doing is urine samples!

Yes I have same symptoms and am better when eating rubbish (don't understand that, strange). You can never relax, IBS keeps you on the ball. No cure, just management! It's like a full time job in itself. If you don't suffer from it, you won't understand.

I have had IBS for 40 years, and yes, your symptoms are typical. You need to manage it, have you not been given any advice?

It will be caused by an intolerance to certain foods and possibly your lifestyle.

I find Colpermin is good, worth a try and is a natural product.

Bloating is caused by a build up of gas, and it can be quite painful.

Have you not done a food diary? You need to record what you eat, any reactions and try and isolate those foods that you are reacting too.

Everyone is different, and some triggers are not always obvious, but common foods that cause problems for many are:

Cabbage, kale, cauliflower, onion, lettuce, bread, pastry, batter, cereals, greasy food, to name just a few.

It sounds daunting but over time you will learn what to eat, and what to be wary of.

Try slowly changing your diet, see if that helps. Even try different types of breads and / or manufacturer.

Don’t eat too fast, avoid large meals, don’t slouch when eating always best to sit up at a table. Be careful of taking too much liquid with food, which may overload your stomach.

Try and avoid stress and take exercise like walking as it helps the bowel.

Consider the FODMAP diet, which works for many.

Managing IBS is a constant challenge, but given time it becomes easier as you get better at it.

Even now I occasionally have a flate up, but if I think back, I can usually work out the reason.

Thank you for the great response there is some great information there I will definitely follow your advice. Funnily enough at diagnosis they never gave any advice at all and I didn’t have another flare up until a couple of weeks ago I personally think my anxiety makes it all worse too

Regretably it seems than not much has changed in 40 years! I was told to watch what I eat, that was it! I had to work it out for myself, and in those days there was no internet to assist.

Take your time and try not to get anxious about it. Also, don’t try to cover it up, be open with friends etc, they may not fully understand but it still takes that additional stress of you.

In time managing it becomes just part of life/routine, no big deal!

Normally your doctor will prescribe meberverine or similar, to help with flare ups. Can help sometimes, I have found.

Try not to carry too much weight around your belly, don’t wear anything too tight, like belts or tight jeans. I wear braces now, back in fashion and far more comfortable!

Best if luck.

Hi yes I get all of this. It's a massive pain, at the moment I'm trying to eat more fibre and exercise more, which seems to be helping. I still need to poop the same amount but the bloating is receding.
