Hi

I have had bad acid reflux for 10yrs now and i have been taking Lansaprazole for the past 10yrs and it gets rid of my symptoms and has been a gem. But today for some reason its not worked and I've got my acid reflux back. I've taken ibuprofen as im suffering with a rib injury and am in a lot of painso have to take anti inflammatorys. I've never had an issue before could i need to go back to taking 30mg a day? Im currently on 15mg a day.

What has the doctor said? You shouldn't be on Lansaprazole for more than 4 weeks according to FDA. Maybe consider finding the route of the course to your acid reflux and your pain? I have been suffering 24/7 with burping and all sorts of acid reflux symptoms for over 2 years. Still ongoing tests. Your injury maybe linked to acid reflux?

in reply toCatatvet05

My injury has nothing to do with my acid reflux. Its a Rib injury caused my a curve in my spine.

I dont know were you are but im in the UK and i was never told anything about only being on Lansaprazole for only 4 weeks. I've been on it for 10yrs and never had an issue. My Dr is not that bothered about finding the cause since the Lansaprazole works. I've tried other Drs but no luck.

I'm the same lansoprozole controls my reflux. You may find the the ibuprofen has just got your stomach a bit upset. NSAID's are notoriously bad for our guts.

This is what I was thinking.

See if your doctor can recommend anything else. I have a bad time with sciatica. I take codeine phosphate for pain and it also controls the diarrhoea

My husban has been on Lanzoprazole for more than 10 yrs i don't know if it good but if he didn't take for 2 or 3 days he has got acid reflux he couldn't sleep.

I asked his docteur a while ago about it and they said there is nothing else to replace it.

You have my sympathy. I can guarantee it is the ibuprofen that is causing the acid. You should always take with food if you have to - but has been previously said try something else.

Hi i think it was a tea that i had tried for the first time yesterday as my reflux dissapeard after a few hours and when i had another dose of ibuprofen it didn't come back. The only new thing was the tea. It was camomile tea

I hope that works for you! But please if you continue using ibuprofen take it with food. I have had anti reflux surgery and I still get acid with ibuprofen! It's a good anti inflammatory but evil on stomach. I will only use as a rub on ointment!

Yes, it will be the effect of the anti inflammatories. If you have to take those for injury pain you will need to increase your dose of lanzsaprazol. Or ask your doctor for a stronger PPI. Unfortunately, I can't take PPI's as they badly affect my IBS and caused my taste to change.

Take only paracetamol for the pain. NSAIDs caused me bad acid reflux too, they are irritating for GI mucosa.

Hi, I can't take ibuprofen orally because it gives me digestive problems. When I was on Lanzaprozal/Omaprozal, I had to use ibuprofen gel. My partner takes Lanzaprozal for acid reflux, but had to up her dosage. Turned out to be gallstones!

I was told by one GP that any ...prazole should be avoided long term if possible although its routine to put people on them indefinitely. They were from the same practice as my GP so clearly the advice varies from GP to GP. Ive had a terrible bout of reflux the past few weeks and omeprazole was useless but they changed me to esomeprazole and that seemed to work?? I was told to take extra care with things like coffee, especially fresh ground strong coffee and to "blandify" my diet ie stop eating curries etc. Its harder than you think as even some healthy foods are acidic so its hit and miss. I have heard that silocol gel works very well. I even ran it past my GP and she checked it out and said "theres nothing in there that would worry me so if it works, why not" which is a big endorsement from a trained medical practitioner. They tend to dismiss anything that isnt produced by the big drug companies. Best of luck resolving this.

Hi, I have had terrible stomach acid for 2 months , I was sick everyday , I ealise now from the acid going into the stomach when I get out of bed , after trying first 20 mg and them 40mg daily , of omeprozole, this did not work , I then went on 60 mg of lansaprazole , after 4 days my symptoms have eased , I’m not sick , but my stomach still feels raw ,

I have a months suply , should I go on 30 mg a day after that ? Ad ten 15mg ?

Or just stop the medication at the end of the month, if I feel better,

Will certainly get an endoscopy when all the lockdown is over ,

Has anybody had similar symptoms?

Hello, I’ve had acid reflux symptoms for over 2 years - it’s 24/7. They confirmed it’s not acid from running a few tests I.e PH test, endoscopy . Nothing works to get rid of it. They put me on Amitriptyline because apparently it’s down to stress? I’ve been on it for 5 months and told my doctor I’m coming off it because I still have my symptoms. My teeth are completely ruined. GP said it’s not acid but I said so why has be enamel on my teeth gone ? My diet is completely bland . I feel for every one who is going through it. 😫

That sounds awful! I hope mine goes away , the gp said I needed a high doze of medication because the fact I was sick showed I had lots of acid ,

I’m on my 5th day of medication , at least my sickness has stopped , but my stomach still aches , and my throat is now very sore , I’m surprised you haven’t got to the bottom of your problem. You need to see a very good gastro man , these doctors don’t know much ,every doctor had a different view

Hello,

I’ve never thrown up fully just in my mouth quite a bit. Wonder was causing your stomach distress? Any other medication you are on? Could it be an allergies?

I wouldn’t just stop taking your medication when you are better - your acid reflux could backfire? Have you considered acid soothes temporary?

I saw a graso specialist last year and he was very dismissive. I said I suffer with anxiety etc and none of the medications were working! he put my acid reflux symptoms down to stress - after the ph was clear of acid acid reflux. I’m baffled myself what it could be? Gone back to square one again. I’ve got to run some blood Bd stool tests, again. If it was down to stress wouldn’t the Amitriptyline have worked by now?

I’m going to see a holistic specialist last resort. 😟

My sister had similar symptoms and the Drs never knew what hers was she went to a Naturopath and she found out she has Candida in her stomach and bowel. Ince she treated that her symptoms went. I'd definitely reccomended a Naturopath. I'd go to one myself if i coukd afford it.

Hello, yes I do wonder if it is Candida? It wouldn’t show up in stools test or an endoscopy would it? I had theses tests, i can’t afford private - prices are ridiculous! My aunty was diagnosed with Candida by a holistic specialist. She was addicted to sugar! Since her diagnosis she’s been good. Thanks for the information.

Ps now I think of it, when I had an endoscopy they found thrush in my throat. I was treated for it twice, once last year after the endoscopy and last week. No changed.

in reply toCatatvet05

Its possible if you do have Candida its still there as if your still eating there food source they will still survive. My sister did a keto diet to really cut down on sugar as even healthy food can feed Candida such as fruit and potatoes. She went very low carb and then took a probiotic and a natural anti fungal and her symp went away after a few weeks. Im not sure which anti fungal it was put it was a capsule and it came from the tea tree plant.

That’s interesting. I don’t eat potatoes or rice because it doesn’t agree with me. Some vegetables are complex carbs like carrots which I eat. Will look into this. Thank you.

Are you eating before you taking the ibuprofen? It's important you should. Ask your GP for the higher dose while you take it
