Suffer with severe Acid Reflux - constant acid in mouth

I have history of acid refluxI and recently for the past two years have suffered with it severely - it’s consisted every day, no matter what I eat. I have eliminated lots of food out of my diet such as wheat, dairy, fruit, spices, pretty much everything! I’ve tried simple diets and nothing seems to work. I’m not only burping constantly, I get acid in my mouth, vomit acid etc, and it just stays there, all day, I also get acid when I’m asleep and when I’m reading.

I have completed treatments with the NHS, had the camera, samples and blood tests -all normal; however will be taking tests again. I’m on the waiting list to see a consultant. In the meantime I’ve taken all types of acid reflux medications as well as different types of herbal remedies and unfortunately nothing seems to get rid of it or at least stop the acid after I’ve eaten.

As result of having constant acid attacks, it has destroyed my enamels to the point of obvious sign of loss at the front and back of my teeth with exposure to dentine and thinning of my fillings and teeth.

Could really do with some help. Thanks

Have you tried PPIs like Omeprazole, I personally, have found this particular drug really helpful, although it does take up to two weeks before you notice the difference. Also, I sleep with four pillows, so that I am virtually sitting in bed rather than laying down. Good luck.

Yes I’ve have tried these tablets for the past 2-3 years, and now back on it again; unfortunately I find it worsens my symptoms. Laying down and mid way affects my acid. I think it’s a case of something else rather than GERD. It’s very frustrating. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you. I have been in and out of hospital and gp appointments for the past 2 years. The Gp has given me every drug they can think of and nothing seems to work. I have literally tried everything, every herbal, every trick in the book and still severely suffer with acid reflux. I think there is more to it and doctors are just giving me drugs which is not the solution!

I started with gastritis and periods of acid reflux a couple of years ago now, along with my IBS-D. My GP has put me on 150 mg of Ranitidine twice a day and it’s all back under control. As a side effect, it seems to also have settled my IBS-D right down to the point of having “normal” daily motions most days. I do get the odd blip, usually when I eat trigger (for me) foods but the ranitidinehas made a massive difference to my quality of life ... no more pain! And I can eat a much greater and healthier range of foods again.
