Weird bowels since Sunday

I have had IBS-A for 28 years and Diverticular disease for 11. On Sunday my stool was mushy(as usual) with undigested food. I had to go shopping so took 2 Buscopan to slow my bowel so I could get things done. I felt ok when out but later in the day and passed a small amount of stool and had nausea on and off and had very little to eat. Monday was the same but with very noisy bowel and monday night I had loose stool, cramping after using the loo and a general uncomfortable feeling. Today (Tuesday) I have been to the loo 8 times with loose stool, undigested food(including the chicken I ate on Monday) and now all I can pass is mucus which is very runny and clear. My bowel still feels off, the cramps have gone for now but when I massage my bowel it sounds like running water and really sloshy(mainly on the lower right amd moving upwards) I'm using a hot water bottle to help ease things but still struggling with the weird feeling. It feels like a build up to a really big wet fart! And a bit colicky at the same time. It's not a pain but it seems to be an endless feeling that won't go away and I've never had it lasts this long either. Can anyone relate as it's getting me down and I hate feeling this way.

Undigested food can be due insufficient acid in the stomach to break down the food. Lack of certain enzymes may be part of the problem. The buscopan might not help some folk. I found food intolerance tests transformed my life and ommitting all indications from test things resolved. You have diverticulitis which has to be monitored by your specialist. I found merbeverine useful but although symptoms were lessened there was no improvement until I removed multi grain wheat rye barley sent lactose free and removed rice and maize as well as banana which were my staple carbs.

Do you have problems with citric foods and juices as mY be there is digestive imbalance affecting you. Can give you details of where I had tests in UK.

Hi, citrus is fine as is dairy, white bread, pasta and rice. I have used different elimination diets over the years but nothing could pin point any particular thing. I don't have a specialist for my diverticular disease and when it does flare I use a low residue diet for a few days. My IBS doesn't have any particular pattern and I can eat most things but I know what could set me off so avoid them as much as possible. The fodmap diet is useless as half of what it says I can eat I know I can't and what it says I can't eat I can. I've been given various meds over the years but there isn't one thing that works well so only use them if I really need too. I take each day as it comes and eat what I can when I feel up to it, but most days I just manage with my evening meal. My weight is up and down(I have always been obese though) and all my sygmoidoscopys were clear except when they found the diverticular in 2009 and stomach polyps in 2013 probably due to ppi's as I've been on them for years for reflux. My doctor recommended an mri for microscopic colitis but it never went ahead I was messed about and told the hospital I wasn't prepared to be poked and prodded any longer. My symptoms have changed and gotton worse as I've gotton older, as has my stuff it attitude lol if I want to eat somthing I will as it doesn't always effect me.

Guess you are in us. If you have done certain avoidance of foods you still may not have pinpointed your environmental and food intolerances . The problem may be multi histamine flares which may be helped by antihistamines but it is the smart test which is a finger prick test will locate food groups to which you have unknown intolerances. There are tests on amazon.com which you send to a lab from a simple home administered test which screens over 60 foods. There is a video u tube Smart Blood Food Intolerance tolerance testing. Blood prick tests are better than hair strand tests. Celiac disease and multiple food intolerances

thepatientceliac.com/2013/0...

Isabella Wentz United states pharmacist has articles on line about multi histamine flares as does Suzy Cohen us pharmacologist suzycohen.com free articles which open your eyes. Enzyme therapy may help your digestive system .

An article

shopperadvocate.com/1-rated gives enzymes which could be a route to help.

Vitamin b 1 and b 5 as well as B12 may help over ride allergens. The immune system needs vitamin d a pro hormone as well as vitamin k. Nutritional deficiencies occur with bowel problems. If you have gluten intolerance this may be a metabolic factor harming your gut.however it is common to have multigrain egg dairy intolerances a d these may never be picked up.

Cutting sugar and those comes and Pepsi's alcohol might be environmental causes.i know how you feel as I was 70 before I found support through smart tests and immune support. Cutting rice and maize stops arteries furring up and helps weight loss. The same with grains which have gluten and many proteins which you can be sensitive to. Keep searching and pinpointing your demons will solve the puzzle.

I'm in the uk and my gp is useless but I can't change surgery. Finger prick tests are hit and miss and my sister- in-law paid for a stool test but it was really expensive. I have had multiple stool tests through my gp including faecal calprotectin which is what prompted them to ask for the mri and I have been told I'm not coeliac so clueless now lol

I had a test from Alphega group of pharmacies which is interpreted by pharmacologist. They have branches throughout the UK . The results were helpful and certainly highlighted food intolerances. I decided not to reintroduce foods as heard people had reactions after making progress. I noticed a difference within 48 hours. The website has linked chemists which have special services including allergy testing. The finger prick test is a new test from Germany and is accurate. The chemists are linked to the NHS for referral. It is fascinating to find cross reactions between certain foods and tree pollens. Peanut allergy may be linked to legumes or the same protein in other nuts. Foods contain hidden additives which are not labelled. When you buy mayonnaise it may contain malt vinegar derived from barley. barley malt may be present in beer whisky milk drinks . If you have yeast allergy then look to bread..it is a complex subject but it is worth the price of a pair of shoes to have this test. I really think only a limited range of foods are tested for . I was told I was normal after being tested as gluten free. The problem continued until a member of my family booked a test for me as someone she knew was helped. Lo ..my test for gluten was correct but I was allergic to proteins in wheat and there are 27 potential proteins in wheat alone which people can be sensitive too. Here I was gluten non sensitive but sensitive to all the foods connected to grains. I tried to buy certain flours from health food shops but they had other additives such as rice flour or wheat flour added so had to send stuff back as the ingredients were not labelled at point of sale. Was it worth the effort? Yes because I could travel without stopping every half hour . I could go out for the day instead of being near a loo. I have managed to cut blood sugar levels with diabetes so am drug free for it.

Just hope you do try the same test as it is definitive takes a couple of minutes is in a private room with case history taken. Test results back within the hour. No more NHS misery..ha.
