Do i have IBS?

Since late febuary, i became pretty sick and had an asthma attack. Because of that my doctor prescribed my with prednisone which i took for a week. Taking that, i started to have adbominal pain, nausea and really bad constipation.

Even when I would eat, it wouldn,'t relieve the symptoms and once i got of the steroids, i still had those same issues. Its been over two weeks since i finished the steroids and I've been eating gluten free and dairy free product after hearing that i could have developed a food intolerence which eased some of the issues. I still get some nausea and bloating after i eat but it wasn't as bad as before. I can't go to the doctor to test because of coronavirus. Is there a chance that i have IBS?

(Note: because of the steroids i also got really bad iral thrush if that needs to be taken into account)

You have certainly got a case of Delhi belly, or had one anyway, but it really isn't possible to determine whether or not you have IBS. If you are suffering from bloating and excess wind, then reduce alcohol and stop drinking all fizzy drinks, also stop eating peanuts and sweet corn, Brussel sprouts and baked beans. Good luck and stay safe.

If by dehli belly do you mean travellor sickness? If so i havent been to anywhere near india but i did get food poisoning of some bad calamaris back in the beginning of febuary? You think that has sometjing to do my stomach issues?

As for the fizzy drinks, caffinated drinks and alchohol, i dont drink coffee, tea or alchohol as it never interested me. Same with the food you listed. But maybe they were ingredients in some things im eating that im not aware of. Thanks for your reply and stay safe too!

Sometimes food poisoning can trigger IBS. Nausea, bloating and constipation are symptoms of IBS but it can only really be diagnosed as IBS if these symptoms continue for at least 6 months. If these symptoms do continue, seek help from your doctor when the coronavirus situation dies down to get properly tested for it (stool test, ultrasound, blood test) to rule out any other issues and confirm the IBS diagnosis.

Wow i didn't know that. Hopefully once the coronavirus has died done or left the country, I'll try to get some testing done to narrow it down. Thank you!

Good Afternoon

I have had asthma since I was 30, at 60 due to work related pressure I started with IBS (D)

I have tried everything from not eating ect, I use peppermint capsual x 2 every morning, yes tried the tea but for me the tablets work better, due to my problems I take several types of supplements from a company online called zipvit, they provide a comprehensive guide book on vitamins and supplements, look on their web site and see what you think.

I have also found using co-codamol helps keep the symptoms at bay, and from personal experience My IBS has put me in so much pain you never want to eat again

Other advice is carry out a good map, put down everything you eat and drink, then work out what makes you ill? For me it is bread and bran cereal, through trial and error I have found having a bowl of porridge in the morning helps me through the day.

I know every advice from people and by a is all about eating 5 a day great advice but once again eating any raw salads, vegetables, fruit actually ferments in my stomach, I could feel, throw in and the anticipation of going to the toilet filled me with dread, the severe pain came after going to the toilet!!!! It would double me over with pain! I found a hot water bottle helped, but once again it made me so tired.

I hope thing is helps?

Thank you so much! I haven't tried peppermint yet since i wasn't particularly found of it years ago but the capsule seems something to look into. I've been taken note on what i eat for the past month and it has helped.

I'll also look in that supplement company. Thank you for your help!

Good Evening

Just read my first reply! Have to see how I remove predicated text of my kindle!

I am pleased it helps, trust me I have tried every method going, the pain is something no one (unless they suffer) can ever understand, it is the same with the asthma, no matter how fit we are, when we get a cold it hits us hard! If you do not have one purchase a flow meter to check your breathing, find your base level then when you start to blow less than 5% ask your doctor for the steroids and amoxicillin, the antibiotics on there on are not strong enough.

On the steroids unfortunately they have side effects mine was pain in my groin area, doctor explained it to me after.

Swimming is a great exercise for asthma and a steam room, I use these after my workout.

With me my chest gets cold very quickly, hence I am often even in the summer having to cover up, I have given up trying to explain to normal people why!

Regarding zipvit I have used them for years, good price and quality of product, because of the IBS I take vitD as one of mine, all about reading what you may want to try, please remember it takes at least a month before you start to see any benefits, again through trial and error see if your doctor (if safe) you can try co-codamol, I will admit at times because the problems seem to go away I forget to take the tablets! Yep silly mistake my IBS hits back.

Also stress is number 1 on the list to avoide, trust me if anything brings on your IBS it is stress, it can so often be unseen, please be aware next time you have a problem work out if you could be stressed.

If I can help anyone not feel the pain I have had through asthma or transfer IBS I will.

Plus have the flu jab every year around October, I swear by this to help through the winter months.

Graham
