Hi can any one tell me the difference between IBS .IBS B and IBS C, i think thats all of them.

I have been an IBS sufferer for many years and really just tickled along but recently something has changed , not quite sure why, i am however going through the menopause not sure if that triggered anything.

I have recently had a colonoscopy and endoscopy ,abdo CT scan, ultrasound on pelvis , ECG and chest x-ray, all of which have come back ok just a couple of things picked up.

Possible urethra diverticular of which is giving me huge pain but the IBS just seems to kick of such pain like i have never had before, its like loads of nerve pain all over my body ,i have never had it like this.

I have noticed that some of you have mentioned under arm pain and rib pain , this is what i am getting now , i am now due a breast mamogram in a weeks time cause i just cant wait till the summer when i would have been due it .

Hope this makes sense and sorry for the long post.

IBS c is Constipation, IBS d is Diarrhoea, and IBS is just that Inflammatory bowel syndrome IBD is inflammatory bowel disease.

Hi, I'm very interested in your comment about nerve pain all over your body. I get something like that myself. It probably started about 20 years ago and has got worse and more widespread over the years. I have never been able to find anyone else that has this. My take on this (as doctors aren't interested) is that it is referred pain through the body via the vagus nerve! Does this sound similar to what you are experiencing?

I also suffer with fibromyalgia could it be this for you too??

Hi, I have wondered if it could be this and did run it past my doctor but she wasn't very helpful but then she never is. I had asked her about vitamin D deficiency some time ago and she tested me for it and said it was a little low, so I tried vitamin D but it made me more constipated, so I gave up with it. When I asked her recently if all the pain I was having could be down to fibromyalgia she just said that the first thing they would do for that would be prescibe vitamin D when she knew I had given up with it!

That's what they said to me at first too but I persevered and asked for a rheumatologist appointment and was diagnosed- I do however reccomended trying again with the vit d and magnesium as its helped me immensely especially with leg pain, I also use epsom salts in my bath (3 cups) I buy 10kg off ebay for £9.99 which lasts ages which also helps but persevere with ur dr

Many thanks for you reply. Can I ask how much vit d and magnesium you take each day? Do you get this from the doctor or do you buy it from a health food store?

Hi guys , thanks for your input , no still the same went to see an out of hours doc today , i was so anxious and bless her she calmed me down , she tried to put my mine at rest about the breast pain but untill i have the check i wont rest , as for the pain below i have to wait for the urology appointment to come through so its a case of grin and bare it.

Ibs kicked of last night as well and i have terrible indegestion.

Any way very interesting what you said about the fibromyalgia and is def worth thinking about when the next couple of tests are out of the way .

I have this too Maureen and the nutritionist/kinesiologist I am seeing has advised me to gargle every day as this has an effect on the vagus nerve. I believe that you may have to do it for a length of time to be effective. I have been gargling, to the extent it makes your eyes water, for a couple of months now and will continue in the hope that it will help.

I have heard of this before! I did give it a token try but I'm an impatient person so gave up as it sounded unrealistic really. Also I am actually not very good at gargling! But perhaps I'll have another go. Perhaps doing it after cleaning my teeth, I sometimes gag when I do that!! But it won't cost anything so worth giving it another try. Thank you for that.

So you get pain all over your body too do you? Have you been told what it is, have they suggested fibromyalgia?!

I have had all the usual tests and it has been put down to severe IBS. First 2 years it was IBS-C but has now gone to IBC-D. This morning I have had an appointment with the Pain Management Doctor at the hospital where I advised him that the pain from the stomach even radiates down a nerve in my leg. Sometimes the pain feels like cut glass in my stomach. He has offered me Lidocaine infusion which is a procedure they carry out in Day Surgery. Have not properly looked into yet but from the leaflet he has given me there are some considerable risks involved which I don't like the sound of. Apparently it can be used to reduce other medications such as morphine. I do have some Oramorph but my GP is not keen on me taking it and has reluctantly let me have Diazepam 5mg. which I find helpful and it does relax my stomach muscles. Fibromyalgia has not been mentioned. I'm considering having a stool test via my private nutritionist, it's costly at £345 but if it is parasites causing the problem it can be cured. This will be a more comprehensive stool test than the one I have had on the NHS I am sure. What an awful complaint to get in my final years, it has completely ruined our retirement!!! Best wishes to you Maureen. Cherry.

Thank you for your reply Cherry. My pain feels like it is referred from my stomach and tummy area. It goes down my legs, into my feet, and toes (sometimes giving me cramp) and also down my arms and into my hands and fingers and more lately I am finding it is radiating up into my neck, face, eyes, mostly the right eye and most recently my ears, mostly my right ear. The feeling in the eyes and ears is more like there is something in there aggravating me, so I keep rubbing my right eye which can get sore after a while and the right ear feels like there is something in their like a worm or something! Does that sound anything like you are experiencing? Somedays it's worse than others and somedays I don't have it at all (although not very often). I think if the IBS is okay (which again is not very often) then I don't get pains.

Hi Maureen, thinking about it, I too get cramps in feet and lately my fingers have occasionally locked up. I think the loss of 4 stones in weight is something I am having difficulty coming to terms with. I am all skin and bones and find it uncomfortable sitting down and finding a comfortable position in bed. Was even glad to get out of the bath this morning. I am definitely going for the expensive stool test and arranging tomorrow through my private nutritionist. Even the Pain management doctor thought it would be a good idea. It should throw up some light on what I'm absorbing foodwise and whether in fact, as I suspect I do have parasites. Cherry x
