Why are you worried about what they will find? Surely, it is better to know why you are having problems, so they can treat you properly, than not know and be treated for the wrong thing!

My Grandfather, RIP, used to say "There is no point in worrying. Ask yourself can you change what you are worrying about? If the answer is yes, then stop worrying and change it, and , if the answer is no, then stop worrying, 'cos it is going to happen, anyway."

Hi, I was worried about the procedure too, but in all honesty, the prep was the worst part, and even that was manageable. I had Fentanyl as a sedative, which acts very quickly, and the procedure was both pain free and interesting, as I was able to watch the camera on screen. If it is ever required again, I would not be concerned.

I've had it done a few times and there is really no problem at all. Yes a bit of discomfort but the prep is worse, endless trips to the big squirting. On one occasion I had a 3cm polyp removed. It took about an hour and I watched it all no problem, but I I'd was continually being pumped with gas which gave me horrendous pain for many hours later until I could actually fart it all out. Your procedure Will be fine and very straightforward, try not to over think it.

To put your mind at rest statistically far far more people will come back with an IBS diagnosis and only a very small proportion of people will come back with anything more severe. This is even if you have had elevated Calprotectin or inflammation markers. It would help you if you could try to focus your mind on the work or chores you need to do on a day to day basis and try not to look ahead or perhaps even avoid discussing it with people because it will contribute to you obsessing about it. You might want to also tell people that you don't want to talk about it until after the event or the results are in. Distraction is the key to getting you through this. Good luck.

I've had two colonoscopies (separated by many years) and both times there was a nurse who looked after me through the whole process. She was there entirely to look after my wellbeing and hold my hand etc. I found this extremely reassuring.

I was supposed to have one last year, but couldn't cope with the prep as I can barely walk, let alone run to the loo.

Ask if you can start your prep an hour or 2 earlier, so you finish earlier. I had a split prep with the first litre of Movieprep at 7pm in bed and comfortable by 12.30. Had the second litre at 6am and back in bed again at 9am for a couple of hours. My appointment was at 1pm about 40min drive. Honestly no problems

I had a light diet on the days before

Hope this helps

Your not alone , majority of people going for a colonoscopy feel the same. By then you will be empty be sure to follow the instructions.

Honestly this is the worst part waiting/worrying!

Try keep yourself occupied, that’s what I did, poor dogs had the legs walked off them, made myself do things I was putting off, etc. Once I started the prep in a strange way I was relieved. I was finally doing something positive about my worries

Hope this helps x

I have a colonoscopy under G.A tomorrow! About to start my prep shortly. Having done this once before, honestly don't worry. The prep is like a flush. You drink it and it all comes through. You won't have anything left in you about 2-3 hours after taking the prep, so accidents are impossible! Don't worry about getting to the hospital, everything will be long gone by then! I do recommend using vaseline, lots of wiping can get sore!

Hi there I was interested to hear how you are going now after 4 years as I suffer with anxiety and fear of having an accident whilst out which means I don’t like going too far from home and was the colonoscopy clear?
