leaky gas

I am embarrassed to say that I have a problem with leaky gas. It's a foul and pungent smell. I have very good hygiene. I bath daily and wear only clean clothes. I avoid people and places as a result. Is anyone else battling such a condition. I've been to the doctor many times and they think it is all in my head.

I think that those of us who suffer with IBS/IBD are much more sensitive to our own bodies, and it's noises and smells, than non sufferers. We notice things a lot quicker and stronger than our non suffering counter parts.

The most important think is, as long as you are clean and hygienic, down there, don't let it worry you, no one else will notice it. The next thing to take care of is to make sure you eat and drink properly, and there are no strong smells coming from these. (curries, baked beans, Brussel sprouts etc.)

Thank you so much. I purchased peppermint oil and enzymes yesterday. Today I noticed the odor is not as bad. Hopefully this will resolve my problem with continued use. I also purchased some probiotics.

I find that happens when I am a bit constipated.

This is true. I thought I had discovered a remedy to my problem. For months I made sure that I emptied my bowels prior to my shower each morning and I would be good for the day. It was a great idea, until I changed my diet which included a plant base diet and juicing. Now my problem is back with a vengeance. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Hi there

I do understand there are lots of other people who suffer out there,

There are 3 main ways of helping it.

One is to keep a good diary and make a note of what smell you get and correlate it to the food. You may have to do this several months to be sure you get the patterns that emerge.

2 ask for a test for wheat and lactose intolerance.

3 myself I find cutting out beans. Strong smelling foods and all milk helps. I have coconut milk or you can have other types such as almond milk.

4 check if the foods on the Tmau list affect you they do affect me. Although I have never been tested for this.

5 make sure you are regular in your bowel habits by eating fruit and veg every day. I also find Yakult helps me one a day.

6 if you have done all this and you are still getting problems then you could see a specialist to see if there is anything physically wrong.

7 some people say that doing exercises to tighten up their pelvic floor helps. You can find them on the web look under faecal incontince the same exercises can be used

8 Also shreddies are underwear that may help they have a charcoal pad in them that is supposed to absorb some gas.

If you cannot feel the gas coming out then it is the same as I have had had please email me direct if you want further support. Sometimes just knowing there are others out there helps.

Thank you for sharing your information. I will try all that you have suggested. You're correct. Knowing that someone understands the stress and frustration I'm experiencing is comforting.

Bad smell is often caused by bad bacteria. Try probiotics it may not stop the gas but it might improve the smell. Make sure u give it a couple of weeks to work.
