Hi I’m new to this group, although had IBS for nearly 30 years, it was all under control two years ago, I lost four stone in weight and got my management of IBS down to a T!
Last year, I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis, and had flare ups every month, was on antibiotics 7 out of 9 months. I have had 10 inches (the infected part) of my sigmoid colon removed in March this year, by open surgery....finding the road to recovery long!
Unfortunately, the dietician believes that my ibs has got even more irritated by having the operation. And unfortunately I am having accidents, sorry for TMI!
Getting slightly disheartened as thought after the op I would be able to lead a normal life again, but bang my ibs has made a reappearance. The dietician has given me a diet to follow, cutting out fermented sugar (found in fruits and sugar).
So basically I take buscopan, and sometimes co-codomal when pain is bad, and also Imodium instants when bad diarrhoea......any other suggestions?
I have also put on 1 1/2 stone that I lost which is gutting, so need to loose weight yet again, turned 50 this year, happy days 😃

Hi I was tested years ago, going back to drs tonight so think I will ask. Its similar to fodmap... Done that so many times lol, but less stricting. Thank you
I’m so sorry - you’ve been through so much 😕. Antibiotics will take their toll on the gut - I wonder if that’s what’s set everything off? It can take a long time to recover from such a long time on them. Also, have you been given any sort of post-op support? Let us know how it goes at the doctor today xxx
Hi thank you. Post op support has been non existent unfortunately I have had to ask for everything or run things past drs, nurse etc. Dr tonight was lovely but said not really much can help apart from imodium which I used to take when initially diagnosed with ibs. I’m going to give it a go every other or third day, as I don’t want to be constipated. I have another appointment with surgeon on 22 Nov, I’m sure he won’t agree with me using Imodium, but I can’t get to speak to him.......so fingers crossed🤞xxx
Bless you. That’s just not ok!! I hate the way we need to ask and ask and ask....often to be met with very little help at all. I’m pretty sure your surgeon won’t be too pleased about Imodium either - but what else are you supposed to do? I think it’s a really good idea to take it every other, or every third day. Hopefully you will find a balance in there. You must be so frustrated 😕
I know them being the professionals and us being the meer patient suffering! I am really fed up, anxious all the time and sometimes wonder if it was all worth it 🙄.... I know it was really, just having a downer xx
