Excessive Colonic Fermentation

Hi all. I have been diagnosed with excessive colonic fermentation as a possible cause of my IBS-C. This was done via a smart pill that you swallow which measures the PH throughout your system. Does anyone know how I can treat this? They recommended probiotics but I've already been taking a good one for a few months. I also started Sauerkraut last week. Any advice is much appreciated.

More information on probiotics is available here theibsnetwork.org/diet/prob....

Each probiotic is different, targeting different strains of bacteria so which one you choose depends on your symptoms. NICE guidelines recommend you try them for at least four weeks.

Hi There Philbs

I've never heard of the Smart Pill, where did you have that done?

I see the IBSNetwork has got back to you regarding the different strains of bacteria.

All the very best and I hope you feel better very soon.

Hello. I got this done at the London Digestive Centre in London

Thank you and that sounds like a very good place, we don't have anything like that as far as I'm aware where I live in Devon.

Maybe a low FODMAPS diet could be helpful for you.

Thank you yes I tried this for a week and it seemed to help but I lost too much weight. It was hard to maintain 2000 calories per day. How long do you think I need to be low FODMAP for please?

Studies suggest keeping the diet for 6 - 8 weeks and then starting to reintroduce low FODMAPS foods, followed by moderate foods and finally high ones. There are apps that can help classify foods with low, moderate and high FODMAPS content.

Yes, it is difficult to maintain weight. A nutritionist can help you with this.

They gave me antibiotics for what sound like the same thing. It helped for a week then the massive trapped gas and bloating came back. I asked my doctor for them again, which I took for another 2 weeks. The second time they didnt work at all. Ive tried sauraut as well. It did help some. I am in the US .
