Colonic irrigation - will this help remove trapped gas issues in bowels? I don't have c or d, just severe trapped gas.. and hugely sensitive gut and stomach atm. ( Waiting for SIBO test)?
Im thinking .... My kinesiologist said i had lots of poop along my colon .. might be causing blockages, especially when i want to get rid of trapped gas....plus i have slow transit time and food doesn't move along - bit like a London bus on these hot days . Gee it was hot on that bus... No air, nothing moving,
Anyway, putting 2 and 2 together. Maybe a colonic irrigation can support that release of gas ( IE farting) .. as usually I'm doing more belching.. ( not very ladylike🥳😩)
Anyone with experiences that helped?

It’s supposed to be quite dangerous really. It can clear out your good gut bacteria as well as risk things like perforating your bowels. I wouldn’t risk it personally 😬
I also wouldn't risk it; I don't think it is something recommended by gastroenterologists. If you have IBS you need to be asking your medical doctor if you should do this.
I have never had a colonic so can't say what would happen. But the way I see it, it's bound to flush out all your gut bacteria. I guess it depends if you are able to replenish the 'good' bacteria afterwards. I would definitely ask the doctor what they think about that idea.
Colons are supposed to have poop in them that's their purpose. If you're having a bm at least once a day is normal. If you have ibs like me and go 10x a day your colon is not processing stools normally. Pushing water into your colon removes beneficial bacteria and puts pressure on your colon wall. My GI said if you're constipated is ok otherwise you have to ask.
With all of my different conditions there is no way I would dare to try colonic irrigation , it's not something that you could easily just stop the effects of and even a gentle treatment could cause a big flare.
I have had gentle colonic massage before , and I self administer it now on my good days as oddly that's the time to make the improvements ( trying any body massage or self care treatment when symptoms are flaring shows no benefit and can make things feel worse).
That has helped me and does reduce the gas ( in my body though , not in the room!) it does help ease the constipation for me with IBS - C too.
Don't forget though , we are all different and all have our unique bodies and health issues so what is a miracle for one person is poison for another.
What's heaven for the healthy is often hell for the the not so healthy.
I would suggest trying self massage or a shortened trial session of colonic massage and then build it up to a full session if it suits before you try the irrigation , it will give you an idea of how your body will react.
I was told by my specialist many years ago that under no circumstance would he advise having any form of colonic irrigation. Far too risky for anyone with bowel issues.
I have done this once and on the whole it did help a lot but yes in the end it goes back to what it was once was. It is like a reset and is quite a tiring process which takes a few days to recover from. Overall I would probably consider once a year as a maximum
I haven’t had colonic irrigation but I’ve got the same awful trapped wind , it’s tedious and painful , I have Sibo , it definitely got worse a few months ago , that’s what made me suspect I had Sibo , the test came back positive. So I’d get tested if I were you .
Thx for your response. And interesting ( sadly) you have same symptoms as me. I never get C or D, so my IBS is technically NOT IBS but still with digestive issues. I'm getting tested soon for SIBO . - altho a Dr yesterday said if i don't get D then i won't have SIBO. Anyhow, it might be sone other nasty bugs down there anyway. How are you getting treated for SIBO Gardenlover ( a beautiful name btw). - anti microbials, or antibiotics? I'm with a gut nutritionist atm who is advising anti microbials. Meanwhile , on good side, i got 10 hours sleep last night with sleeping pill .( Finally!).. But woke up now with lots of painful gas . Need to walk to move it or I'll explode I know this forum is best with positive experiences to help each other, but sonetimes you just got express how you are feeling. Hope you get relief from your SIBO and trapped gas ( i really understand how u r feeling xxx). I'm with Buscapan atm., And eating only cooked FODMAP veg , quinoa and porridge, berries atm.. and a little protein ....
It’s not right what he says about not getting D it’s not Sibo , you can have Sibo and be constipated, because that’s what I have . I got tested at the NHS hospital, it is a breath test , which tells you if you have hydrogen or methane Sibo, diarrhoea is usually a sign of hydrogen and constipation is a sign of methane . It’s the discomfort whilst eating & straight after wind building up that made me suspicious I had it . I’ve tried lots of different products for the wind , I take Colpermin mint capsules , also Zengest after meals and also I have Iberogast in the cupboard just in case the other things don’t work 🙄
It’s awful isn’t it , I really sympathise , it’s so debilitating and causes me terrible anxiety x
Hi, I have just been reading through this thread and I’m curious to understand what sibo is please? I have suffered with ibs c for years but recently I am suffering pain almost every time I eat.Feels like a build up of awful trapped wind which is extremely painful at times. I am living on rennies to try shift it and spend lots of time knelt down with my bottom in the air! (I read somewhere that this helps pass wind)I have spoken to my gp and a gastroenterologist and this sibo has never been mentioned. I take buscopan for ibs and that’s all they’ve prescribed.Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you x
SIBO is to do with the bacteria and flora in your gut, i found when i was on a certain antibiotic for an insect bite that my issues completely cleared up, the antibiotic i found out is also one that affects the things in your gut so i researched it more and the symptoms and everything else seemed to lead to SIBO, but it's quite rare so i'm having trouble getting my doctor to even entertain the idea and he's putting it down to coincidence, but i've taken that antibiotic 3 times now for one thing or another and the symptoms are alleviated every time, yet whenever i have to take different antibiotics that aren't the same they don't do anything to improve my gut
How interesting 🤔. I have read what someone wrote previously that ppi tablets destroy the good bacteria in your gut . I have been on those apx 6 years so maybe there is a connection. I have stopped taking them a few months ago but maybe I need a probiotic to restore the good bacteria.
