Can I ask, what meds have you tried, and what med did your doc just give you?

Only been taken over the counter anti diarrhoea and that was what the doc prescribed me with last time and peppermint capsules. Yestering I was prescribed codeine phosphate, I keep getting told it will clear up in 4 weeks but its been 3 and a half months now

I've had some success with taking peppermint 30 to 60 minutes before a meal. Just make sure you get the kind that is "enteric coated", a thick coating that ensures that the peppermint will get past your stomach and into your colon before releasing.

I don't know how to tell if it is, although after I take it everything smells and tastes of mint I don't think they help though

That may mean that it doesn't get past your stomach.

It will say on the bottle if it is enteric coated.

I use a brand named Pepogest, from Amazon.

Yeah says they are enteric coated

What medication were you given? The only ones I have found that really, really stop diarrhea in its tracks are: Welchol, Colestipol, or Questran. I take 6 tablets a day (3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon). I now no longer have this problem!

Well..that's not appropriate, but I'm no doctor. I just do not understand why these doctors do not know about bile acid malabsorption and the drugs that completely work for it! Anyway, you might want to tell your doctor you'd like to try one of the 3 I mentioned....I'm sorry you're having a problem with this..I know how awful it can be!

I have the worst gp in the world, they are so hopeless and never listen to me, I have asked for something to stop it and to be referred to the hospital but I don't think they have referred me and she keeps given me medication that isn't suitable it even says not suitable for chronic diarrhoea so I have no idea why I've been given it

Stupid doctors...most of them are totally worthless..won't listen to their patients at all...way too arrogant, so they have no ears!

Tell me about it every doctor in that gp practice of mines is the same except one of them I'm going to ask to see him next time as he's the only one who listens

I would ask to see a consultant specialist you have a right if it is severe and has gone on that long.

I have asked but I don't know whether she actually referred me or not, she just said it's 3-6 month waiting list as if they would put me off getting referred if they hadn't messed me around so much I could have been referred a month ago

Just to check! You re not on lansoprazole are you as this causes chronic diarrhoea in lots of people . Hope it all gets sorted for you

If it goes on just give them a ring and ask to clarify if you have been referred or not, u have a right to know it is your body but I hope you will improve before then.

Yeah I will ask I'll call in on Tuesday, exactly what I was thinking the doctor that's been dealing with me isn't the greatest

It doesn’t work for everyone but I have had IBS-D for many years and discovered Silicol Gel about a year ago. I take a tablespoon before I eat in the morning and it has made a huge difference. Maybe give it a try?
