HI, Does anyone get horrible palpitations which they are sure is down to gut problems?
If so, do you have any advice or had any advice or treatment for this?

literally me right now!!
i have emetophobia and a TERRIBLE case of ibs these days (at least i think thats what it is after around 2 years of terrible flare ups) and yep, without doubt when im having a flare of nausea or d* my heart POUNDS. thankfully its my anxiety and not a fever (fevers spin me into an entire new level of panic cos i haaaaaate being ill) but yeah, youre not alone.
Hey, thanks for your reply. Soon as I seen it, I went & got me some mebeverine.
Makes sense that it could help as my stomach feels constricted & I also have a lot of wind (burping loads).
Did you feel the wind added to the palpitations or even caused them.
Anyway, thanks so much for your reply,
I'll give these a go👍
Yes I’ve experienced this before when my IBS has been bad
I suffered from palpitations also. I've recently had cardiac tests, including a 24 hour heart monitor, an echocardiogram and an angiogram. All, thankfully came back absolutely fine.
I've suffered IBS like symptoms, on and off for most of my life, nothing too bad though, just every now and again. Recently though, the symptoms got so much worse. I had to go to the docs to get it investigated as I was really worried it might be something else. I've had lots and lots of blood tests, a stool sample, an ultrasound sound scan, which checked out my gall bladder, as the doc thought there might be a small possibility of gall stones, or an inflamed gall bladder. All of which came back ok, apart from a slight show of inflammation in my bloods. Although the doc said it wasn't too high, she has, just this week sent me for another blood test to check it again. If it's got any higher she's going to refer me to the gastro specialist. If its stayed the same then she's leaving it up to me to decide whether I want further investigations or not. In the meantime, she has prescribed me MEBEVERINE, which have really helped with the symptoms, thankfully, including the palpitations.
I have also had a few lifestyle changes recently, which have eased my stress and anxiety levels immensely, which, no doubt has also helped with my gut and palpitation problems.
My point being, I think it is possibly quite common for IBS sufferers to have palpitations, as both can be a symptom of stress and anxiety. If you are at all worried about them though, go to your doctor and ask to be referred to a cardiac specialist. Always better to get these things checked out. I know I feel much better now knowing there's nothing wrong with my heart.
Hope you're feeling better soon. 😊
I have had this too. Linked with anxiety for no reason at all. I've found regularly exercising and relaxing when possible to be helpful. Stressful situations don't help either. Find myself counting to 10 a lot in life to stop an attack.
DEFINITELY CAN BE A CONNECTION!
I think there may be a connection between ibs, anxiety, and mitrovalve prolpase. A lot of people seem to have all 3.
Also, chest pain can be caused by esophageal issues, also part of the gastrointestinal system.
I am suffering from Heart palpitation (fast heart rate) from the last 4 months now.
My normal resting heart rate would be in 70's and as soon as I eat my meal it goes to 110 120 for 2 hours straight. I am also having loose stools and chest pains.
Had 3 Ecgs, all blood works and everything seems okay. I can't find the reason for it.
Have you tried Mebeverine for this? Because this seems to happen when you eat food, it might well be that your intestines are tense when food is being digested & triggers the fast heart rate.
I only got some of these today as suggested by the kind information I received in this conversation.
When I ate food recently I would get palpitations for a couple of hours till my food was digested. I can honestly say I've had none after my dinner & only minor ones after my lunch when I initially tried the mebeverine. Fingers crossed these are doing the business🤞
Worth a try at a fiver a pack. Let me know how you get on. Good luck
I have the same problem. Most cardiologists seem to be dismissive of the connection. However if you google Dr Sanjay Gupta you will find lots of helpful videos and advice. He’s a cardiologist based in York.
I have some heart arrhythmia, afib irregular beats, which was probably caused by low folate. Never the less I've been referred to cardiology. My heart rate is tachycardic when in a lot of pain and my blood pressure goes up. Mine isn't associated with anxiety or stress. I feel it's nutrient or pain related and it's been happening a lot recently.
