According the the book IBS Solutions, written by an eminent gastro doctor, your sort of IBS is mainly caused by air swallowing, which is caused by breathing wrongly, which is caused by anxiety and stress!! He gives exercises to learn to breathe from your diaphragm instead of the top part of your lungs, and at the same time relax your shoulders. I started doing these exercises on Saturday, so don't know yet how it will work - got to be worth a try though if you're like me - in constant pain, bloating, burping etc etc. Give it a try. The book available on Amazon for about £7 or so. Good luck, hope you find a solution soon.
I am on Sertraline for the anxiety bit!! You should also try a probiotic called SYMPROVE. You have to take it for about 3 months (not cheap!!!) to reap the benefits. It has helped me a lot though and take it every other day now. Google it and see Daily Mail reviews and Kings College Hospital tests. A lot of good feedback. Definitely worth a try!! Good luck.
Hi I have similar symptoms..I had a colonoscopy end last year and have had an endoscopy before a few years ago, they arent that bad REALLY..so dont worry, well worth having to rule out anything serious going on. My belching seems to be caused by ulcers..it worsened as they day went on, I am now taking lanzoprazole and after just a week on those its already lessened. Im trying the low fodmap diet, am into wk 2..so far i cant say im feeling a lot better and im missing a lot of the food groups i ate before but i will persevere until ive seen a dietician next month as not sure im doing everything right..just picked suggestions from books and internet sites so may be eating things i am supposed to have cut??who knows...
Anxiety is your bowels worst enemy, so try and find ways of relaxing if you can..im not big on alternative therapy but am now having regular reflexology and trying meditation when my kids allow me some peace of an evening. Also just want to add that some anti-anxiety drugs can cause constipation so double check with gp that your meds arent adding to your pain.
Hi Lancia, I have had both an endoscopy and colonoscopy and they aren't bad at all. I didn't suffer an ill side effects with either of them. Also agree with sickandsore in that it's best to have both tests to rule out anything more sinister.
I am on a multivitamin which I can say has really helped me over the years and has continued to do so, not only for immunity but also for the IBS as the multivitamin contains a probiotic. They are called Multibionta and are made by Seven Seas, I always purchase them from Boots on a 3 for 2 offer. I still have IBS and have periods where I suffer more than others but it's not like what I had years ago where every day I was in agony and at my wits end.
I have tried various other medications and the only one that's helped in any way is Windeze, although I have noticed that you can't purchase these many places.
I went to see a dietician a couple of months ago and she suggested the FODMAP Diet but I will have to wait around 4 months now as her colleague is going through some training on it before she sees me again. I will report back after being on it for a couple of months to let everyone know how I am getting on.
Best of luck and you will find that this forum helps alot.
