2 years of hell
Every morning is a tough task, knowing I'm going to have to deal with ibs pain throughout the day. I work on a restaurant line and the heat and stress kills my ibs. I recommend protein shakes throughout the day with small meals here and there. Magnesium from chocolate will help me most of the time. It's weird I know. You're not alone. :/
I'm on codeine for my IBS- D and its helped me get my life back! Its addictive so make sure its prescribed by your gp and closely monitored. Mirtazapine has stopped my IBS anxiety too. I hate taking meds every day but to feel human again is so worth it.
Also I've done candida test and sibo test so maybe these are things to investigate to as I've heard 85% of IBS sufferers have sibo. There is hope you have to find what works for you something will! X
Have your doctor prescribe for you: WElchol, Colestipol, or Questran. These drugs stop diarrhea in it's tracks! It's worth a try...I know your feelings....hang in there!
8 yrs ago a similar thing happened to me - I already had been diagnosed with IBS - but I had to take an antibiotic for a throat infection and this wiped out my entire gut flora. I couldn't even leave the floor where the washroom was for 3 months! I kept reading online and discovered articles about gut flora and the success of probiotics. So I started taking probiotics - 2 per day. And over a number of months my health improved dramatically. I started thinking it was my life saver. Over the past 8 years my IBS got so much better to the point where it almost disappeared and I felt normal! I have recently has to switched the type of probiotic since I developed an intolerance to an ingredient.
Point being - don't give up - try looking for something that will restore your gut flora - whether that is yogurt (I eat lactose free yogurt) or probiotics or something else. Also I do recommend looking into stress relief - whether that is meditation, yoga, tai chi. Its a two step process - heal your gut and heal your mind.
Hang in there.
Hello Ken, so sorry to hear of the horrendous time you are having with IBS-D. I suffered from the same problem for 2 years, with lots of tests, with all coming back ok. After 6 months of being in and out of hospital, due to being unable to stop being sick and dehydrating, I was referred to a Gastroenterologist. Sorry to say, the doctors were not helpful at all. After all my tests came back negative, I suggested to the Gastroenterologist, if I could try an antidepressant called Amitriptyline as I had read online that this had helped people with IBS D. I take 10mg a day and wonders upon wonders, it worked. Before I was referred to Gastroenterologist, I had asked my G.P. who would not prescribe it as I was not depressed!! Anyway, the good news is the IBS-D has now stopped. This medication can cause constipation so I take Prune Juice (Sunkist) daily and this works. Hope this helps.
