Codeine causing bad constipation

Has anyone got any advice on how to treat constipation because of a couple of days taking codeine. I had a bad neck, but that was far better than what i have now. I am full without eating and taken 2 suppositries today with virtually no movement. I feel uncomfortable and starting to panic. I so regret taking those painkillers.

You might find Movicol helpful....try 3 sachets within 6 hours. My GP suggested taking 2 senna tablets at bedtime in addition to this if the problem persists.

I have the same problem with the codeine prescribed by my GP....which I don't take very often for this reason.

Thanks. I do have laxido sachets and i am going to take 3 within 6 hrs today. Incidently i have had a bit of a BM but not enough by far.

Try taking fibre

I read fibre can make ibs c after codeine worst as it can cause more bloating. It is all so complicated.

Codeine is well-known to cause constipation. Try something else.

I take painkillers for abdominal pain, 2-3 a day. I used to get constipated, but my body adjusted. If you need something for pain, I don’t think Codeine is the right one. I take Percocet 10/325. Been taking the same dose for years & have never needed to increase it & my Dr knows I don’t have an addiction problem. Everyone is different. You can always get something for OIC (opioid induced constipatin), from your Dr.

Thank you. I think i am going to try an ibufperfin gel do am not ingesting anything.
