Hi everyone,

I just wondered if anyone would be able to give me a little bit of advice.

Since around July time last year I have been having quite a bit of stomach trouble. I have Axial SpA and my rheumatologist seems to think that I may have IBS as this can quite often be related, so has referred me to a gastro. I'm still waiting for the appointment since September and the pain and problems seem to be getting worse not better. This morning I work up in agony today; I went to my GP who has kindly said they will refer me to another gastro so I'm hoping that I might get an appointment fairly soon, but I will see. I've been getting a lot of stomach pain, cramping an bloating and I've also been getting a lot of mucus which isn't particulary pleasant as I never know how bad it is going to be.

My GP also gave me Hyoscine butylbromide and told me to take Wind Eze as well to relieve some of the sysmptoms in the meantime. I just wondered if you can take both of these medications together?

Thank you in advance.

Kirsty

Yes you can take them together. Have you tried going dairy free for a while just to see if you've developed an intolerance of lactose and or casein.

I have been having the same problems as you and take both drugs. Sadly they don't seem to make any difference. Im in the middle of various tests with no prognosis at the moment other they think it is IBS...

What you have been prescribed is fairly typical. As far as I am aware you can take them together, but it does not get to the cause of your problem. It is probably to do with food intolerence, so you need to think about diet and lifestyle.

It sounds like you have IBS.

As many advise on this site, you need to start with the basics, a food diary so that you can try and work out what foods are causing it.

There are the usual suspects, broccoli, kale, cabbage, cauliflower, and wind can be caused by cereals, breads, lentils, and many more.

Everyone is different, so that is why you need to do your own investigation.

It takes a little time and patience, but once you know you can manage your problem.

Don’t overeat, eat too fast, slouch when eating, drink too much fluid when eating, skip meals, and don’t wear tight clothing like belts and jeans as that make it worse.

Try Colpermin which are peppermint but I find just as good and often better than prescription drugs.

If you find cramp and wind is keeping you awake, I would try two Colpermin with a sip of water about 30mins before bed. Be careful about mixing up too many medicines at the same time though!

Try not to get stressed and anxious, that will make it worse.

Lots of further info on this site and on line.

Thank you for all your helpful tips, I will make sure I keep up the food diary and hope that I can start to see a pattern in what I'm eating. I'm on quite a lot of medication with my Axial SpA so I don't think that helps my stomach pain. Just hoping I can begin to find out what is wrong and not feel so uncomfortable.

Thanks again

I am troubled by the readiness of people here saying "it sounds like IBS". It is very important to get other conditions ruled out first as many conditions can give similar symptoms. If you are having problems getting a gastro appointment I would suggest using the "choose and book" system as often you will get a much quicker appointment.
