It might not be IBS

Hi there everyone. I stumbled across this forum and read a few posts. I have been having these deep rectal contractions sometimes in the middle of the night. VERY painful and the "gotta go" bowel movements and then again like "contraction" pushing. Lots of IBS symptoms. But I also have lower back pain and sciatica. For years!

Well, I went out of state after seeing multiple neurosurgeons and other various specialist. Come to find out, those rectal contractions are my levator ani muscles. They are angry from trying to hold my sacroiliac joints together as the ligaments were compromised in a severe car accident. Child birth can cause this as well. If you get a sharp pain in the crease of your upper thigh and groin when you stand up from a sitter position. This may be your problem as well. I hope this helps you guys. Quality of life matters!

Find someone to do dry needling on legs , pelvis, and spine. Preferably physiotherapist. This will calm your nervous system down. Then work with the physiotherapist on Pilates. Don’t google Pilates. The old Pilates instructs you to have a flat back and work on trans abs. You want the new Pilates technique breath in through diaphragm, out through chest along bra line which will draw in your anal/ rectal area. This has been a life changer for me. No flat back and not too much arch but normal and heals firmly planted. It is critical not to do this alone as you can easily do the opposite of what you want to accomplish. I have seen numerous physical therapists, chiropractors, and physiotherapists, and they all do things differently. The doctors will not be able to instruct you on this. I highly recommend finding a physiatrist to get an accurate diagnosis and then work with a physiotherapist you trust. You can get internal trigger point injections as you work on breathing techniques. It took me 3 months to really understand how my muscles work. Once a week visit the physiotherapist. It took three rounds of trigger point injections

By a urogynecologist. Don’t waste time and money seeing anyone else or you will end up on the gerbil wheel. Good luck! I hope this post helps many. I have been on the gerbil wheel for 4 years.
