I get a lot of pain with ibs and diviticullitos. Can anyone recommend an effective pain relief medication.

I’m looking for something for IBS pain too, I take buscopan or colese for pain which help but if the pain is severe they don’t help enough.

I got IBS after my father died ...stress induced. It has since followed a pattern of recurring after stress.

This was 14 years ago, and I found things like buscopan didn't make any difference, and the doctor said they could try tricyclic antidepressants as they are often effective for IBS for some reason ..perhaps relax the painful spasms.

Not wanting to take those drugs if possible, I did a bit of searching for supplements that closely resembled the tricyclics, and found three amino acids recommended: L-Theanine, Taurine & GABA.

Further searching found a supplement that contains all three plus Holy Basil: Theanine Serene by Source Naturals. It's available in this country, and I've bought it ever since. There's one by the same company called Theanine Serene with Relora (Relora being magnolia). That's the one I usually buy.

I was sceptical, but very surprised to find that they worked very well for IBS ..twice a day when troublesome, and I still take one at night. I'm also in remission now for Ulcerative Colitis, and can still take it without problems. If the IBS flares up, I take one during the day too. I also take Melissa (lemon balm) capsule at night.

Not saying Theanine Serene would work for everyone, but well worth a try.

For severe pain, I took one paracetamol and one codeine - worked very well.
