Confused about Symptoms and no Treatment so Sorry for the Essay

I am now 66 yrs old and have had various bouts of IBS which incidentally used to be called Spasmodic Bowel Syndrome and I don't know why that term is now redundant. As a younger man I am sure the attacks were stress related but on those occasions I also had additional symptoms including diarrhoea or constipation. I began suffering abdominal pain about 6 months ago which I self diagnosed as IBS but when it became constant over a few weeks I went to my GP who told me it was uncommon for "a man of my age" to have IBS so I have had the usual investigations including colonoscopy and CAT Scan. No results were forthcoming so I again made a GP appointment (this time I had a different Dr.) and she basically told me that IBS WAS common in older men and as the tests for anything else proved negative thats what I must have! I was told to take buscopan or peppermint neither of which have an effect. Thing is my symptoms have changed - I used to get pain if I didn't eat on time and it was released by eating but now I can feel the cramping start as soon as I approach the end of a meal. I get bloated and burping even when I'm hungry. my stomach makes lots of noise with no identifiable regularity. Finally my stools are regular and normal. I'd just like to know what the hell is going on!!!!

As nobody else has answered your post, I thought I would reply to you. What you are describing as having now seems consistent with IBS. I'm a 60 year old female and had IBS for over 30 years (on a daily basis for over 25 years) and I still don't know what's going on.
