I b s bloating
I'm so sorry... have you tried going on a strict gluten free diet for several weeks? This is something that helped me... I cut out ALL and EVERYTHING that had ANY kind of flour in it ...not just the 'gluten free' stuff??? Strictly veggies, fruit, and meat... I felt pretty sorry for myself at times! but I didn't cheat...not even one bite and finally 'got used to it'... Maybe (if you want) try this for at least one solid week... remember they sneak flour into foods like canned soups...its AMAZING how they 'sneak' additives in! Best wishes to you.
Thank u Betty for ur reply, I cannot eat s lot of fruit because I get constipated, I have tried a gluten free diet and that didnt help either, I’ve just bought a running machine so I hoping that will help x
Have you tried Bentyl or Levsin?
No I haven’t eliana I will look that up now, did they work for you x
Hi,
You’ve probably had the FODMAP diet suggested, but if not, do have a look - it’s not really a diet in the usual sense, but a list of foods which cause bloating. I found it very accurate and use it to decide what to eat. Unsurprisingly, onions, garlic and beans are ‘high’ FODMAP foods, but you might be surprised to learn that asparagus and mushrooms are also culprits.
Hope that helps.
Thank u I’ve looked up what bloats my tummy, and what foods are best for my ibs, I even bought a cook book for ibs x
Hi,
Good plan! That works well if you’re at home, but there is an app for your phone that can help you to decide what to eat while you’re out. Trouble is, that’s fine if you choose ‘single item’ foods like steak, chips and peas - it doesn’t work so well if you don’t know the ingredients in, for instance, chicken tikka masala!
Keep up the good work!
Hi there,
If you have tried everything, this is something to consider:

Hi Alison, I am not trying to be difficult but just read the above. My IBS started when my husband decided he didn't want to be married any more and I was changing jobs. This lead to me having to buy a place of my own (didn't want to go back to my parents) and have the responsibility of a mortgage too. But this was over 30 years ago so why hasn't the IBS gone away. Also within a year of buying my flat I meet my current husband and we sold up and moved 60 miles away and brought the house we still live in. Surely it should have eased off, not got worse. Maureen.
That's a very good question Maureen. In my own experience my body continued reacting to situations that for my mind were old and sorted. I had a created a set of trigger patterns that went round on auto-pilot and got progressively worse - until I learned to understand their roots, what I needed to learn or heal, and interrupted them.
Hi Alison, I maybe a bit dense but I don't understand the last bit of your reply about learning to understand the roots, and what I need to learn or heal, and interrupt them. Is there a particular section on your website you could perhaps refer me too? Many thanks. Maureen.
Hi Maureen, This is not particularly easy to explain or understand, as it is not the traditional approach to IBS. This article explains the concept in more detail: sickofibs.com/ibs-triggers/...

Hi Alison, thanks for that, I thought it would be something along those lines. I don't really have any stress these day except the IBS but my husband know someone who is trained in NLP so I may give her a try sometime. Thanks again. Maureen.
Hi could could have a tummy like mine, the slightest bit of stress and my tummy bloats out xx
No, it's not stress because my IBS has been everyday for the last 28 years and before that it was about every other day. My tummy has always been large, before I had IBS, it was flat after I went to the toilet in the morning (which I did without fail and without any problem each day like clockwork) and then as I eat during the day, it got bigger and bigger, it wasn't bloating it was that I just loved food. I would add that I wasn't fat either. My tummy just expanded with the food and disappeared the next morning when I went to the loo until one day I woke up with IBS. That was 35 years ago!
Interesting Alison. I have had IBS since I don't know when, but it tended to be stress related, such as exams and stuff like that.
I know some foods have always reacted badly, for instance raw onions, curry and other spicy foods. No problems there anyway as I detest raw onion, curry and spicy foods in general, though I did used to enjoy the silver skin onions.
Way back in 2011 I went through a lot of medical problems, which meant I was stuffed with antibiotics. At the time they didn't seem to cause me much of a problem, it was the assorted painkillers that gave me the most hassle, hence why I have to be desperate to use anything other than paracetamol.
However a couple of years ago I had an ear infection, two lots of antibiotics later and the infection had more or less cleared up, had to leave Mother Nature to finish the job. That is when the IBS got really bad, bloating, wind, pain, you name it I had it. Not that my GP believes I have IBS, she is positive I have cancer. I don't know how many more tests I can have to convince her I haven't!
I do have it more or less under control now, just have to make sure I don't eat anything with seeds, skins, green leafy vegetables, and salads. Thankfully there are still some fruit and veg I can have, plus white bread/rice/pasta. I also stuff my beak with live yogurt.
That's interesting Rozwalts.

Thank u that did help x
Have you tried a week on a low residue diet, followed by a low fibre diet? Add the odd extra item every week to see what effect it does/doesn't have on your IBS. For instance I know I can't have any fruit with seeds (except strawberries) skins, nuts, or green leafy vegetables. Not even watercress, which I love. Even growing cress sets my IBS off.
Yes I agree, if bloating is the problem, then the Fodmap Diet should definitely help. You’re avoiding all highly fermenting foods which will make you bloated. Try it for a few weeks.
