Homeopathic diet following a test

Hi all,

I am day 12 of a 4 week diet given to me by a homeopathic lady. I am not allowed to have yeast, alcohol, caffeine, dairy and certain fruits and veg!

So, my issue is IBSD. I all I can say is - this diet has made things 100 times worse. Surely cutting out “all the crap” should be helpful? :-( I am making sure the fruit and veg I have is on the low fodmap list!!! Had D about 9 times today. Anyone know what’s happening? Its hardly like reintroducing all the bad foods would help; surely??

Also, I wonder if the increase in fibre is causing the major bowel movements and general unwell feeling? My body isn’t used to it!

Possibly the fibre. Too much insoluble fibre really irritates my gut and causes big issues. Try and stick to soluble fibre for a while.

I would say yes it is all the fruit and veg in the diet, there has been a lot recently about different types of fibre and what they do. Might be worth looking up online about fibre.I have tried all sorts but have just started Afflorex tablets that I have seen others on here claiming they are good. I have only been taking them for a few days but I already have more energy, feel my body is getting back to normal which it hasn’t been for many many years. I can say that this morning I felt I needed the loo, but crucially it wasn’t, I desperately need the loo, no pain before either and almost normal poo. I like you had been going upto 7 or 8 times in an hour. I have IBD, diverticulitis and gallstones. For the last six months I have been so ill, so low, barely able to function. I ate a melted cheese and veg panini while out with a friend yesterday and thought I would pay today but no problem as yet. I will post on here every few days to let everyone know how it is going. I’m hoping it will all be positive.I would contact the homeopath lady and tell her about your symptoms, or go to GP. Drink plenty of fluids and consider rehydration things like dioralyte or chemists own to keep you hydrated.

Thank you :-) What a lovely and kind response. Weirdly the symptoms have got stranger today and now I am breakthrough bleeding!!!! Crazy. Like my body is in meltdown. I have decided to stop eating fruit as I didn’t before this diet (except for bananas - which the homeopathic lady said NOT to have). Got a really limited amount of food available to me now. It is clear though that introducing that much fruit really causes havoc!

I have emailed my lady too - so will see what she says.

So sorry you have suffered so much. It really is so hideous!!

Tell me more about Afflorex - I have not heard of that x

You are welcome, if you now have bleeding please go to GP /A and Eif it continues tomorrow, if you begin to feel like you have bad flu, are violently sick and have a high pulse and temperature go straight to GP or A and E as you may have an infection. I suggest for the next 24/48 hours eat broth soup if possible, no carbs , no milk products to give the system a break.

Sorry had to have dinner, I will let you know how the Afflorex goes, I am a bit bloated tonight but I have eaten too much as I am actually hungry and want to eat, not feeling nauseous and in pain. I have overdone the fruit and veg, I had salad in my brown bread sandwich,a celery, apple, melon and cuecumber smoothie. With dinner I had a meat pie, with broccli and pea.I cooked the mince filling with celery, onions and carrot in too. Afflorex is a special blend of bacteria that are supposed to be closet to those a baby gets from their mother. It is stated to be recommended by American gastroenterologists on the info. I got it on a well known shopping site online. I have got to the point I will try anything, within reason, my consultants in the UK will not for some reason do an endoscopy, I have had a CT scan where they picked up gallstones and diverticulitis, but I really need endoscopy and biopsy.

I was given this diet by a homeopath and like you made my symptoms worse. I gave up and carried on living with my symptoms which again gradually got worse and took over. I went back to my GP who referred me to a GI consultant. He said was more than likely IBS but performed a colonoscopy which was clear but biopsy revealed microscopic colitis. I have researched and cut out all refined sugar and alcohol. My symptoms were better within a week and the intolerances I thought I had to other fruit and veg have also disappeared.

I would recommend a sugar and alcohol free diet to anyone suffering with IBS d and take it from there.

It’s really not as difficult as I thought it would be after you’ve got over the initial sugar withdrawal which is a matter of days and you can find plenty of recipes online to help you.

I am sticking with this for the time being. I’ve had a couple of days where I’ve socialised and want to eat and drink whatever I want and just live a day with the consequences.

Good Luck I hope you find a result xx

It could be your homeopathic medicines, they usually tend to aagravate the symptoms, this has happened to me when I was trying homeopathy.

Increase in fibre or eating some fruits might make you feel worse but not to an extent where your bowel movement increases from 2-3 to 7-8.

Hmm, there was me wondering if homeopathy was the way to go. It would appear it isn't a good idea, especially as your diet suggests that most of what I know i can eat without problems, are on the forbidden list.

I think I will be sticking to my low fibre/high carb diet as it seems to be working ok. Although I wouldn't have know if it hadn't been for the five day low residue diet I was on before the colonoscopy. I wasn't sure just how I was going to get through those five days, especially without any bananas, but I did, and found I was pain free by the second day. I have since added several fruit (including bananas) and veg to the mix, but apart from the skins on new potatoes, I have to steer clear of everything else with skins/seeds, nuts too. Peas are ok, as are peeled and cooked fruits, it is just the skins and seeds that are the problem.

I do tend to stuff my beak with yogurt, especially the yogurt with live culture. I even have it on my breakfast cereal instead of milk.
