I am feeling really low today, I cannot stop feeling nauseous and the pain becomes more frequent now and seems to go up into my chest. I have my endoscopy a week today and don't know if I can even go through with it! I feel so lousy and just down about everything with my tummy and bowels, I am just considering reducing down all my food portions (I suffered with anorexia a few years back)
Would cutting down how much I eat, help my symptoms at all? I am just a girl who is really struggling with it all at the moment

Hi, I’m so so sorry you’re feelin so down but I promise you’re not alone and how you’re feeling is completely justified and okay. Cutting down has never helped me, and it’s such a sensitive area because of your past I really wouldn’t recommend. I’ve had a really poor relationship with food myself and I try my hardest not to restrict my eating. Take it easy and eat safe food but make sure you keep eating, little and often is best. You’re doing so well, better than you think! Keep pushing and hopefully you’ll get some answers with your endoscopy, think about why having an endoscopy is positive. I hope this has helped sz
Thanks Sophie for your reply, sometimes it's nice to have a bit of a vent and realise that other people are in the same boat. Yeah I am very hit and miss with my food because I just hate feeling so nauseous but not eating and eating both cause it so it's so 'catch 22' Thankfully I will be sedated for this endoscopy, just so nervous about it as it's just unpleasant! I will do and it has helped, thank you xx
Hi, I felt the same way, before my upper GI and lower Bowel Follow through Barium Swallow. I had the same symptoms, felt depressed (yet another test) and the symptoms of pain, loose stools, IBS-C, cramping intensified, as well as losing another friend, as I have lost most of my social life because of this crummy illness. I pretty much had the same symptoms you described, and called my case manager and said I wanted to cancel. I have no transportation. She was not happy. So, I kept the appt. I think our symptoms have alot to do with being anxious over the test. I could not do an endoscopy so I admire you for that. The test will be over before you know it. Mine was and it was not as bad as I thought it would be, and you will be back to yourself and hopefully get the answers you need and you have us on here for support. Can they give you anything for anxiety before the test? I know sometimes, my gp will do this..
Hi Eliana, yeah that's what I am working myself up over, because I feel so nervous about the test so I don't know if it's making my symptoms worse or not :/ my doctor gave me some diazepam to take before I go but don't want to be completely out of it before I even get there! I've never taken it before so don't know how I will be on it! Thank you I really appreciate the support on here (my family, friends and boyfriend are all really supportive but it's nice to talk about it with people who are going through similar situations) x
Yes, the Diazepam is Xanax I believe, a Benzodiazepine. It is an excellent medication. I have been put on this or Clonazepam (Klonopin) before I get any procedures performed, and it makes a huge difference. Our emotions mess with our digestive system..I suffer from major depressive disorder, Severe Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, BPD. I am on a cocktail of meds. I know alot of my IBS-C symptoms are due to my mental/emotional state. Even therapy and medications do little to help unfortunately. I am getting ready to start trying to take Magnesium Citrate Capsules, as they work well for anxiety, and most of us are deficient in this mineral. It is also good for stress and insomnia and IBS-C. I need to get off the laxatives. I am frightened I may have rectal prolapse. But the only thing that helps me flush is Senna-Lax, that I can only take once a week on a weekend night, as I live in group housing. I take the recommended dose, but I feel I have harmed my Digestive system. Nothing else works for me. Anyway, I think you will find it will help alot. Keep us posted, and good luck with the procedure. ☺
Ah okay, I am not sure if that's what they use as a sedative injection as well? I don't want to take the tablet and then be told I'm not allowed the sedative as well :/ Yeah I feel like my IBS C is due to that sort of thing as well it's horrible knowing that emotions are making it worse, but there's nothing you can do to stop it happening. When I am really anxious or nervous, I can't stop going to the loo! Me too, I don't like taking laxatives all the time as they make me feel a bit sick if I do more than a week in a row but I worry about the effects of coming off them! I will do, thank you x
Helen1922 tell the team you have suspected IBS and you need "enhanced" pain reliever. I do feel for you, but we have to go through all these tests and in the end we WILL find out the cause. Good luck
Hi Eastbourne 11 - do you think they will? I am anxious to ask incase they think I'm being a baby but honestly I would just walk out if I had no sedation/pain relief because I am so scared I'm going to be sick during it as it's so uncomfortable and unpleasant thank you xx
Hi Helen, Best not reduce your portions if you've had a history with it it also wont help either x
i know what its like to suffer as well, and i have bad days everyday. atm im having a bizarre set of symptoms thats keeping me up all night with chronic pains high up in my stomach.
So you're not suffering alone.
IBS is such a broad term and covers people who barely suffer and manage to hold down real jobs to people who fight daily pain and cant even leave the house.
Dont worry about your endoscopy, its just part of the process of getting better, its soon over and then afterwards you might get some answers.
Hi RobWilde, thank you for your reply yeah I called them today to make sure I was sedated and they confirmed I would be so I feel a little better about it. Just annoying how inconsistent my symptoms can be, today has particularly painful (I had a smoothie :/)
Firstly the doctor and hospital is the wrong place for your diagnosis as the tablets just put a band aid and as you say cannot get up the next day and feel groggy. The doctors just want to prescribe and medicate when it is not the answer. I suffered with depression but that was through being in pain and being on the toilet day and night. I dropped to 7 stone.
The first positive step to take is to take a private stool test. In most cases our condition it is bacteria that causes is it.
Have you heard of VSL probiotic? You need this and it helped me greatly...
I can forward you the nutritionist informatation who helped me greatly with the right advice..
1. Stool test
2. Take out foods that are causing issues
3. Add the right foods
4. Juice mainly apple ginger and carrot
5. Sleep, rest and exercise
6. Get of the drugs medication as soon as possible
All of the above with the support of a nutritionist. It took me 6 months to get better after 15 years of being in pain and doctors telling me it's in my head! Seriously they do not care for us..
Also have you or been going through stress or outside stress during all this?
No I've not heard of the VLS probiotic, where would you get that from?? Yes please if you could, that would help. I was meant to be referred to a dietician a while back but it just never happened! Unfortunately I take other medication for different health problems so I can't completely rid myself of meds, I also have to take laxatives to get me to go to the toilet or I just won't go I have always been a stressed person, I work as a Healthcare assistant/training nurse so I am always busy and I will go go go until I physically can't anymore! Oh really? :/ the main reason I was having the endoscopy was because of my nausea and upper left abdo pains, they were concerned about ulcers. I don't really know another way to go about getting my stomach pains looked at really?
Take The diazepam before you go for your endoscopy test. They are brilliant and work straight away.I take these sometimes before a hospital appointment or even when I am extremely anxious. They will take that horrible fear away and you will feel really relaxed and in control. They are very addictive so only take when absolutely necessary. But there is nothing to worry about concerning diazepam.Ive got some at the moment as I have been suffering with really bad anxiety attacks .They also work well for me for sciatica.Good luck.Let us know how you get on.x
