Stitch

I’ve had a stitch under my left ribcage for years. It comes on without any prior notice. I could be watching tv, in a restaurant or driving. I’ve tried charcoal, and several other products. I’ve ruled out a hernia. Any advise or tips would be great appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same. I have had investigations and apart from some diverticulosis all is well. The consultant said it is probably gas getting trapped in the splenic flexure which is under the left ribcage. I have cut out anything that ferments in the large colon, fhrom my diet. This reduces gas production. Over a 6 month period the pain got less and eventually went. If my diet changes or I have a couple of weeks eating the wrong food, it comes back but now I know what to do.You really should ask your GP to refer you for investigationsto rule out anything andif nothing is found ,consider doing the fodmap elimination diet. They advise doing it with the help of a dietician but I did it on my own.

Good luck

No trouble. If you put Fodmap diet into a search engine you should find a good explanation. If possible choose the Monash university site as they devised it. For me it has meant cutting out certain fruit and veg eg apples, pears, fruit with stones, cauliflower ....... also I need to be careful with dairy produce and wheat. I havnt eliminated these just drastically cut down. Also red wine does me no favours .

Do have a look at the diet. There are lots of easy to read books on the diet too.

It took agood few weeks before it started to work. I have eaten some of what I shouldnt over easter and the pain is back right now so that means back to the diet tomorrow!

Good luck and dont forget to get checked out at the doctors too. X
