Just read a magazine article reporting that a survey of IBS sufferers showed all of them had low levels of Vitamin D. I've been on supplements for a while, may be worth trying

Vitamin D
I take Vitamin D supplements and now have a level of 26, up from 20. I take 1000 msg per day. I think a level of 26 is considered pretty good. I have to say, though, it has not made any difference to my IBS d.
For the past 2/3 years my Vitamin D level has been over 300 and in toxicity and has made no difference to Ibs I have been taken off of all vitamin d supplements and is coming down slowly, so if you are taking vitamin d supplements please make sure that you get your levels checked regularly as the toxicity comes with more complications.
How did it get that high? I would apreciate it if you could let me know.
Hi b1b1b1,
I was overdosing on vitamin D3 and thought that I was doing the right thing, the supplement that I was taking D3 2500iu each three times a day all year round for quite a while.
I went to an endocrinologist who specializes in bone density issues, as I had some bone loss in my arms. She told me to take 50,000 iu of vitamin D per day. This sounded weird to me so I did not follow her instructions. I am pretty happy with the 1,000 mg per day. Am glad you caught your excess amount of Vitamin D.
How do you get your vitamin D levels checked? Is it by GP?
My GP is always very vague about testing my B12 levels etc.
Is there a guide or information I could read?
I have IBS (D), dairy intolerance and I’m vegetarian too... I have also recently found that the cause of my terrible headaches and face numbness is chronic tooth grinding (but this is being helped with a mouth night-guard!
Thanks for your post I will try anything....
Hi your GP can arrange vit D test, you normally have to visit hospital as it has to be tested immediately(?).
Hi, you can get a test kit, a few companies do it but costs about £30. In case your interested one of the companies is called Betteryou.com. The samples are tested in the same place as the NHS samples apparently. Maureen.
The blood tests are done at your doctors surgery, the other test that might be worth asking for is Zinc to see how your Zinc levels are my doctor was not very pleased to do it to start with but I have a nutritionist she asked her to do the test, which was done and I am low in Zinc so are supplementing and also have regular blood tests.
