Binge eating

Hi everyone. I don’t know who else to talk to and am brand new to this platform, but I can’t stop binge eating. It used to be just before my period (all my life and I know that’s normal) but now it is ALL THE TIME. I eat quite normally during the day, not too much or too little, but in the evening I can’t stop. I go on and on and on, even though I feel full and sick and hate myself, I’m very aware that I’m doing it but if I stop eating I feel on edge. I’ve been doing the fodmap diet for a while now and only binge eat on low fodmap foods but obviously my IBS isn’t getting better because I am binge eating! I have tried all the tricks people say: keep food in the cupboard, drink plenty of water, eat slowly, identify WHY you want to eat, distract yourself with something else, exercise etc etc I’ve tried EVERYTHING and nothing is working. I want to eat until I feel sick and if I don’t I feel so on edge. I’m at my wits end and don’t know what to do. It’s making me miserable.

Hello! I notice nobody has responded yet and so I thought I would “hello” ☺️

I may not have anything particularly helpful to say but one question - when you say you feel “on edge”; are you anxious? I wonder why it is only in the evenings?! X

Hi ch, you've been very honest and upfront about your problem...that is good!! To me, this already shows a 'good start' even though it may not feel like it to you.

Now if you are eating cake, candy, and cookies...then I would say OH OH... but it might actually be that your body is missing some kind of essential nutrient and I would definitely talk with your dr about it. Have you been tested for diabetes? You might (or might not) get some help from your dr... But I would definitely make an appt.

Maybe try confining your binge eating to slices of apple or oranges, bananas, NO carbs of any kind...You think that might help? Good luck to you and keep in touch!

Hi there,

You are very smart because you have made the link between eating and feeling on edge.

I spent years comfort eating without noticing I was doing it - and not realising why.

You might find this helps: "I Need to Stuff My Face!" - (EFT) Tapping with Brad Yates.

You just watch, tap and repeat what he says.

This looks wierd at first but it is about stimulating main acupuncture points. Brad Yates is really good. And if you find other emotions coming up, you can choose another free video of his and work on that if you want to.
