Thanks for providing that link Joanne; it made very interesting reading. The report confirmed the wide variety in symptoms and degree of intrusion on lifestyle that IBS sufferers experience.
If it didn’t offer any blanket treatments, at least it confirmed that the approaches that many of us use are reasonable.
The adage ‘get to know your IBS’, perhaps through FODMAPS elimination and slow reintroduction, would seem to apply.
I find that I can predict the effect of certain foods and combinations of foods, and thus take supplements such as Fybogel to moderate symptoms. Regular probiotics (I currently take Alflorex, but have used Acidophilus to some effect) also seem to help.
I occasionally have to accept that if I want to continue to enjoy the odd ill-advised meal, such as an onion- and fat- rich curry(!), I will have to accept the consequences and not go hiking in the wilderness...
