CONSTIPATION HELP

Someone help! I have been constipated for about a week and I feel so sluggish and bloated. I have been using prescribed drinks to help me go to the toilet for about a month but it didn't work. I am in so much pain and I know I need to go but nothing comes out. I'm drinking lots, eating enough fibre but I am on bed rest due to another condition. Can anyone give me advice? Something to help me go? I can't stand this pain any longer I really really need to go.

Can someone buy glycerine suppositories for you to insert. They work quite quickly or a constipation relief tablets which contain senna and work overnight. You also need to keep up a good fluid intake.

You may want to talk to a doctor. Someone else suggested suppositories. That is also a good idea.

If you are not going at all stop eating fibre as it could make things worse. Try lactulose (you can get it otc) or movicol (only on prescription) but make sure you drink plenty when taking these - they can be taken together, I have had them prescribed together in the past.

Go back to your doctor for further investigation, a friend of mine ended up in hospital for over a month because she was completely blocked up due to endometriosis.

I had movicol prescribed but I literally can't drink it, it makes me gag so much it's disgusting lol.

Try lactulose then or mix the movicol with juice. There are similar medicines to movicol. I get cosmocol but there is also laxido, which is orange flavoured. I hate it but you might be ok with it. Lactulose is different, it’s a syrup but it works better for me - you don’t need a prescription.

Natural stuff that sometimes works for me is drinking a small cup of olive oil - but I have to mix it with a bit of salt or lemon juice to be able to swallow it. I don’t think it is as good as the medication options.

PS I know endometriosis is a gynae problem but it can get everywhere as my friend found out.

I know exactly how you feel I get constipation so bad that my whole body feels so blocked up and I feel so sick... you can feel you need to go but then when you get to the bathroom... nothing! And it's horrible

About 14 days ago I started drinking 200ml of peppermint tea every evening... and believe it or not that has seemed to help. I still don't go much or everyday but better then I did before and I feel a bit better too. Might be worth a try... I tried it because read peppermint tea was good for digestion. However it is important to note that because your not getting any exercise this could be contributing to your constipation as moving around helps to move the bowels.

Hope this helps

You need to take a high amount of magnesium citrate or oxide. About 800 to 1200mg. I have had Ibs c almost my whole life and am now in my fifties. This is the best natural supplement to take for this condition and I have tried many. Even my consultant recommended it. I take it every day. You must take it on an empty stomach just before bed with lots of water. I would start with a high dose initially just to clear you out. Even if it means taking a few capsules. I sometimes take 6 200mg capsules. Capsules are the best not tablets and it has to be citrate or oxide as these are the ones that work for constipation. There is a lot of information about constipation and magnesium on the internet. There is a site called Ibs tales that discusses this. The ones I take are either Now foods Magnesium citrate, Solgar Magnesium Citrate or Life extensions. I get mine from the US on a site called iHerb, but you can get them on Amazon. There are other magnesium oxide products specifically for colon cleansing called Mag 07, Colosan and Oxypowder. They are a bit expensive but are amazing. I use these in between. No cramps no bloating, just relief. You can get these on Amazon as well. Don't suffer any longer. By the way I also follow a low fodmap diet through a dietician but this alone does not help constipatiIon.

Taking psyllium husk (not powder or capsules) morning and evening is good. Lots of water with it. It softens and bulks so makes it easier to go.

I think you should go to ER right away. Not going for a week is compounding the stool & taking laxatives, etc, won't do anything.... just severely cramp you up! Go to the Hospital & get them to do what is required to clean you out!! Good luck. I feel for you.

Hello, try Ortis, Fruits & Fibres Regular cubes for constipation. I buy mine from Holland & Barret but pharmacies sell them as well. A natural way to relieve constipation. I have IBS C and have tried lots of different medications and natural remedies and this small cube works for me. A whole cube was initially too much for me as I was on toilet over 5 times in a day, so now I have half in the morning and half in the evening to keep me regular. Hope this helps.
