Does anyone get anxiety over noises? I seem to have an orchestra of embarrassing noises from my colon, intestinal area (left side of abdomen) and general growls and squeaks. My job is customer facing at high level which involves a great deal of meetings so you can imagine the embarrassment and anxiety I get....I’d love to hear if anyone suffers or suffered from the same issues and has a magic cure. FYI - I have IBS,D.

Good morning

You are not alone, in fact I could have written your post. I am in exactly the same situation. I feel better since explaining to my colleagues what my condition entails. I find after lunch the worst time. I take mebervine but find lopermide just makes my tummy even more bloated. Have you tried acidophilus probiotic. I have heard great reviews and although I have been only taking it for a few days the noises are a little better.

I was the same broke down to my GP I was taking mabeverine but it was not enough so I took buscapan too which helped a little bit doctor told me not enough fibre so he advised fiber gels twice a day which did help , but it turned out I had a gut infection and had antibiotics h.pilori so if it continues ask for stool test x

It sounds like some trapped air or something, so I suggest that every morning when you get up, drink a cup of hot water from the kettle, just the water, nothing added to it. It will help to get rid of any trapped and embarrassing air emissions. lol Try it for a week and see if it makes a difference. Good luck.

Lol yep...mine used to b so loud i actually used to get people stair at me in supermarkets or pubs as if to say “ u need to eat”!!!!

It not hunger it just used to make noises all time even in bed my husband used to continuously ask me if i was ok !

I have really tried to hit the ibs this year as im fed up Of it so i went gluten and dairy free which helped

Me massively! Then i started supplementing, so i take a probiotic, a peppermint oul capsule before all meals so no indigestion or wind and a digestive enzyme so i digest easier and so far i been doing this 7 months and my ibs has almost DONE ONE!!! I have prob suffered twice and that was prob silly where i ate something i shouldnt have.

OH AND NO NOISES, silent as a mouse!!!

Agree with other post.have a stool test done to rule it out.thats how my H Poli started .

Hi. You are exactly the same as me and I sat next desk to bosses daughter which added to the anxiety of trying to hide the noises Making symptoms worse. My hospital advised trying to cut out high FODMAP foods and its certainly helped me. There's loads of info about high and low foods on the NHS website and even on the internet generally. Give a low fodmap week a go and see if it helps. Good luck

Hi, it’s so good to know I am not alone . My tummy growls and squeals . Swells up then seems to make even louder noises .... my anxiety over it has gone through the roof. I had to tell my work colleagues about the IBS because they kept making comments every time my stomach made a noise . I avoid certain meetings ( quiet ones ) because it’s just too embrassing. I can’t relax so don’t really listen to anything that’s being said because all I am thinking about is .... when is my tummy going to start growling !! I take meberverine ( sometimes to much ) drink loads of fennel tea ( seems to work better than peppermint ) , but still not great . Sorry to go on .....
