I have just had yet another meeting with my consultant at a private hospital because the NHS have given up on me its been a looooonnngggg 2 years since I became ill on a cruise ship. All possible tests have been done and my consultant is now confident it is IBS caused by a bout of gastro from the cruise. I have another meeting in Feb and he has told me to go wheat free until this point to see if this helps... every time I google wheat free it comes up with gluten free from what I have read these are different things I have no idea which way to turn so any good book recommendations and tips and tricks would be really helpful. Thanks everyone in advance.

Wheat free ....... please help
Wheat free and gluten free go hand in hand as wheat contains gluten, so if it's gluten free then it is wheat free. If you eat things that are gluten free you won't go far wrong. I personally don't like gluten free bread so just eat things like oatcakes instead, ryvitas are good also. Porridge for breakfast or yogurt and fruit. It seems daunting but easy once you get used to it.
Yes if wanting to go wheat free majority of food is going to be promoted as gluten free this is fine. Lots of gluten free stuff out there bread, pasta etc Tesco is really good. I had some gluten free cod from the coop yesterday it was lovely. HECK also do gluten free sausages yum! Just keep checking labels and you will be a pro in no time!! Xx
Keep an eye on other sausages, burgers even some frozen chips have added wheat. X
My best advice would be to check the labels on EVERYTHING you eat. It's incredible how many things contain wheat/gluten. I even found it in ice cream once! The good thing about being wheat free and not completely gluten free is that you can still have oats, rye and barley, which also occur in a lot of foods. Just be really careful and take it slowly, eating as little processed food as possible. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it.
Hi Little Toad thanks for the reply the NHS came to a stand still and didnt know what else to test me for and the chap Im under now seems to just deal with tummy problems which is good in a way the NHS have referred me to him now and hes under private health care:
So far I have been tested for, mostly under the NHS so I cant knock them.
Ectopic pregnancy
Gall stones
Bowel cancer which was horrible
Appendicitis
Water infection
Celiac disease
Coeliac
Crohns
had to undergo
CT on abdomen and pelvis with contrast
CT Colonascopy
A baby scan on my tummy
A tube down my throat - cant remember the name
All have come back clear but my bloods were having high white cell counts due to feeling poorly all the time.
I think he just wants to eliminate a food group to see if this helps with my bowels as I am going between 6-10 times a day on average and in pain all the time ....
Any advice and help I am willing to look at..
Hi LittleToad sorry for the late reply been a bit knacked this week, I was on a week cruise around the canaries which we have done before and it was our 7 cruise so been okay on others.
My main issues have been a constant pain in my right hand lower belly always feels like a knitting needle digging into my hip bone and it doesn't go away, the other problem and the major one for me is my toilet issues, I go at least 10-15 times a day so I feel run down and tired all the time plus I don't want to go anywhere as worried about not getting to a toilet.
gutted for your mum I was lucky that the doctors didnt just mark it up to IBS from the outset and kept going. At first they were worried as they did think it was appendices so they ran a number of tests and I kept having a high white blood cell count which was a worry to them as I was just feeling rough with no let up. I also feel constantly sick the only way I can describe it is like morning sickness which I have everyday and it doesn't stop I've also threw up on the doctors lol.
They did a lot of tests as i was going to the toilet a lot I was bleeding down below so this is why they tested for bowel cancer and as they couldn't see anything they started doing others as well.
what is bam/bad you mentioned. They did take a stool sample in case it was bad food poisoning.
I don't know if they did a thyroid test as I was a pin cushion for a while. lol

Same thing wheat is gluten so go gluten free and your b good to go, i find yeast aswell so id stay away from the gluten free breads as it still has yeast which can tend to bloat and make most gluten intolerant people abit gassy nauseous.
It not hard u cant go wrong with meat and veg and fruit... also go to the free from aisles in supermarkets and if mostly all gluten or dairy free.
Im gluten and dairy intolerant so u can imagine how much of a nitemare it was at first now im healthier then ever and i just dont think about it now.
Good luck any questions just askxx
