Just tried to post this so not sure if already been posted. Basically, lactose free low fodmap- IBS. Now wheat Intolerence. Any ideas for sandwiches instead of bread, is it gluten free which I believe is horrible but may still have wheat in? Fed up of rice cakes already since Tuesday.

Hi,
You can get tortillas and wraps made with maize (corn) flour. I used to buy them online as all the supermarket ones were wheat, but can't remember the supplier. Do a bit of googling, I'm sure they'll come up somewhere.
You're right about the gluten-free bread, it's pretty awful and, because it's made for people with coeliac disease, it's often got ingredients in that aren't okay for anybody doing low-FODs, e.g. concentrated apple juice. It never contains wheat, barley or rye though.
I also used to have corn crackers (as I can't tolerate rice) and oatcakes.
Wheat-free is a real pain in the butt and I really used to miss a 'proper' lowly sandwich or slice of toast.
Thanks for that Rosie, great advice I'll check it out & go merry googling 😊. I'll get something I'm sure. I've been losing too much weight & the dietician said I'm to use semi skimmed instead of skimmed Lactose free milk.
I've gained a pound in 4 days so at least she'll be pleased.
Ok, Baked potato for lunch. Been googling, a few mixed, gluten free & wheat free rolls/bread at Tesco's & Ocado, not just wheat free. No tortillas/ wraps as yet.
Started off 10st 6 Oct 2014. Lost a stone very quickly. Husband was in hospital & needed Open Heart Surgery in March 2015. Diagnosed eventually May/June. Had one Colonography, 2Colonoscopies & my weight dropped to 8st 13. Recently stuck @
8st 10. Then dropped to 8st 8 last week which is quite scary wondering if there was some underlying condition. Hence Dietician put me on wheat free diet this week.
So my Cons Apt is for end of February early March let's see what he's got to say.

I think I used to eat potatoes with just about every meal as I too lost so much weight doing FODs. If you like porridge that makes a good bulky breakfast.
Also, I see everyone else is recommending corn based products. While it is low FODMAPS, it can also be an IBS trigger so if you start having symptoms pay attention to your corn consumption.
Gluten free will do you no good if you are wheat intolerant... (sorry ) I know it can be discouraging. You might check out some paleo meals just for ideas as to what you can fix to eat. I know its no fun going without wheat... but if your diarreah/ibs is bad enough so that it almost ruins you life, you will just have to rise up to it... Sometimes you just have to make a choice. I well remember how hard it was for me...but when you get BETTER, its very rewarding! You CAN get used to it...
Hi Pandora. My dietician asked me the same re a Diagnosis & no I've not had the Breath Test that she said I should have had! I think it was an assumption on my Consultant & myself that the history I gave him lead us to believe I was Lactose Intolerent .
So following my Apt with her this week she concluded I could be Wheat Intolerent. She gave me a few ideas of what to eat & what to cut out to make a definite 'diagnosis' when I see her in 6weeks. Meanwhile I should have seen my Consultant by then.
I have lactose free milk, which I like. I agree with you that looking for Wheat Free foods isn't easy, is it!
Hey lovely, sorry to hear your troubles. Hugs X have you tried the Odi's brand - mainly get it in Tesco's. It's by far the best of the 'free-from breads' I've tried; and the least like cardboard.
I get really miffed with the supermarket brands though... I have a savoury tooth, yet everything 'free-from' is either geared for sweet stuff or has onion/garlic in it.. No good for lowfodmappers.
I Mainly have meat (turkey steaks, gammon or pork chop) with free-from pasta or rice. Courgette spaghetti is also an alternative.
Gets a bit repetitive at times, but add a little herbs and seasoning (onion and garlic free), and Kallo chicken gravy and it makes it a bit tastier. Microwaved jacket potato as an option. Oven baked wedges with rosemary, salt & pepper also nice.
I've been low FODMAP, low fat, low residue, no gluten, low lactose (or food free as my husband calls it) for about 8 months now and have to say it is helping loads! I haven't had a bad D session for about a month (used to be daily) and I've lost over 3stone since June - but I did have a lot to lose in the first place.
It's hard, and boring but it has helped stop the D... I've been IBS-D since I was 17 (now 45) following bad gastroenteritis and diagnosed with Bile Acid Malabsorption last year (12 years after gallbladder removal).
Hang on in there hunnie... Life ain't a picnic, but it sure beats the alternative!
Wow & wow again!! I've only been 'this way' since last year. Not heard of Kallo Chicken Gravy, is it readily available, but then I've not needed to look around. Yes Food Free is a good description. Do you ever go out for a meal with friends as again it's such a restrictive diet. I tend to to stick to gammon, steak or pork. I've had a roast out, but again too dry without Gravy. Hubby out shopping just rang me so I've asked to check in the Free From for the gravy.
I remember those first few weeks of low FODMAPs wondering what on earth I COULD eat! Have you thought of having a go at making your own bread? Doves Farm bread flour makes a fairly decent loaf, and the pizza recipe from the packet goes down a storm in my house with the whole family & my son's friends, none of whom even notice it's the non-wheat kind.
I've been FODMAP free for so long I rarely think about bread now, though. For lunches at work it's either a baked potato with tuna, or homemade vegetable soup that I make in batches & freeze, or if I'm organised enough I make up some quinoa, or maize cous cous, with things added to it that I know don't affect me (e.g. I can't eat tomatoes or iceberg lettuce, which are both supposedly FODMAP-friendly). I avoid cold pasta, though, all the non-wheat brands I've tried are disgusting the next day!
Wow you sound such a good cook/baker....me well I'm not that adventurous. In fact I don't bake & only dabble in other meals. I'm good at Spaghetti Bol, roasts & other non exotic foods, ha, ha. Looks like it's going to be a new Hobby!
Do you use a Bread Making Machine, my Dad did years ago. So depending how I go on I may buy one if Wheat is indeed one of the 7 'deadly Sins'?
To be honest I'm becoming a better cook, simply because my dietary requirements have forced me into it! My son needs to be dairy free, too, which is another challenge, and my husband has recently been seriously ill so needs to eat really healthy stuff. But now it's stopped being a chore & I enjoy it. Yes it is a new hobby! I've even started my own (very occasional) blog: gfandeasy.wordpress.com/ Roasts etc are great though, that's something I'm NOT particularly good at.
I have got a bread making machine but I don't find the non-wheat loaves come out of it too well, so I've just bought a weird green "cook pod" for £8 from The Range in which you mix, prove & cook a small loaf of bread. I've still to find a recipe that I fancy trying but I'll be putting something on my blog about it some time soon.
No not yet as Dietician only said to eliminate whet this week. So it's all new to me. I've had lots of advice & am going to research their suggestions, including paying Privatly for all Intolerence tests.
