I have never used it or heard of it but see on Wikipedia the description for it (below). I see it can be used for a dietary supplement but not really sure why it would be used for IBS?

Acetylcysteine, also known as N-acetylcysteine or N-acetyl--cysteine, is a medication that is used for the treatment of paracetamol overdose and to loosen thick mucus in individuals with cystic fibrosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It can be taken intravenously, by mouth, or inhaled as a mist. Some people use it as a dietary supplement.
