Amitriptyline, Day 2

Hi, I'm in my early 40's and have sufferedswith ibs-d since my teens. There are certain foods that seem to exacerbate my symptoms, but for me the overriding issue is stress; working with my GP and following my Hospital appts I have tried several methods to manage my stress, but nothing I do can over ride the stress of knowing I need to 'go' when I'm out and trying to find somewhere fast.....it creates such a vicious circle, add to that the pain of the cramps & sometimes, it's all a bit much.

Anyway, I have taken some holiday from work, which involves a lot of driving, & have started Amitriptyline. the tiredness so far doesn't seem so bad, but I have everything crossed that this may help. I've never found the anti-spasmodics makes much difference and perhaps eliminating the pain may help he eliminate the stress, which in turn may mean less loperamide.

Does anyone have any good/bad/advice experiences with Amitrptyline to share?

Thank you, A

I've been on amitriptyline for about 6 years. It started helping and for the first couple of years helped a lot. However now I don t really feel any effect. I've tried to come off them but experienced severe withdrawal symptoms. So I'm currently still on them.

Yikes! What kind of withdrawal symptoms have you suffered? It's such a fine balance between how much more of my ibs symptoms I can deal with versus a future trying to come off amitriptyline, right now the balance is towards a break from my ibs, it's absolutely debilitating at worst and embarrassing at best. 😔

Main symptoms were nausea and loose stools. Yeah it's really tough to decide. Looking back I kind of wish I hadn't started. But then I might have been a lot worse than I am now.
