Hi

Im new to this site , i have ended up in a&e quite few times over last two months after coming home from work one day totally fine but within 5 mins of eating digestive biscuits being crippled over in pain! After the dr thought gallbladder, apendix, diverticulitus they then said IBS?

I have cut out dairy, wheat and sugar and things do feel better but now my dr saying she thinks it could be gynaecological reasons so am being sent for a laprascopy? I had a colonoscopy and that was clear.

So question is ! Is it common in women that the two are misdiagnosed or related ? As now im just confused

Hi

After doing some research I have found it is actually quite common.

I think my IBS is more of a gynaecological reason as I started after giving birth etc etc. I'm due to have a colposcopy this week.

I get crippling pain as well and the pain does feel like it's more from my uterus, I get very bad periods and pain with intercourse and just general constant pelvic pain.

So defiantly can be misdiagnosed. But at the same time they can be related and make each other worse.

Don't worry your not alone! X

oh my god, u sound like me, the exact same symtoms, my pain is in my uterus area and spreads into my lower left pelvic area. My colonoscopy was clear but that doesn't mean it not ibs as it does not show but at same time they said it maybe endo on the outside of my colon? which is why I got the lap in july as if your endo is near colon it gives same symtoms as ibs.

It feels tight and pulls when I walk at mo but the extreme crippling pain has gone off since started the gluten, sugar and dairy diet so I'm just confused? I am due on period at any minute to so it could be many reason this is happening today.

it a nitemare!

It's so annoying - I just want the doctors to take me seriously and stop trying to say it's "just ibs" or weight issues.

I had really bad pelvic girdle throughout my pregnancy so all my pelvic muscles are weak now. I think that might make things worse as well

I try to eat well but things don't seem to change no matter what I eat.

X

It's not just pregnancy that can cause problems in bowels. I saw a specialist Tuesday and he said hysterectomy leaves behind blood in your abdominal cavity causing the Bowels to adhere to your internal cavity. I'm due to have cameras both ends and a lactose test! He's told me to eat gluten for over 4 weeks before so they can get a good biopsy and stop taking my stomach meds for 2 weeks!! Only allowed gavisgon!! Not looking forward to it all but at least he was a nice doc who was impressed in trying low fodmap to help myself.

I've had endometriosis since I was a teen and have had many laprascopies to remove it and finally had my ovaries removed about four years ago. Since my daughter was born 16 years ago, I've been told I have IBS too but I've always thought the two might be connected. I've seen so many GP's who just say it's IBS but finally got a doctor to take me seriously last week. I had a blood test and have to do a stool sample then we are going to take it from there. I'm convinced I still have some endometriosis inside, which is affecting my bowels and causing pain etc, but will finally hopefully find out soon if it's something else. I had three laprascopies over a 12 month period four years ago and my bowels have been so sensitive ever since. It's frustrating and embarrassing and gets me down at times. I don't feel so alone after reading your messages. I wish I'd found this site years ago.

I know what your goin through, I've had period pain since 15, was diagnosed with pcos at 19 and put on pill which controlled it alittle but as I got to 38 I was taken off as I was getting migraines then it went down hill pretty quick. 5 years on I have pain all down left side, spasms, trouble controlling both no1 and no 2s lol ( trying to be polite) sent to a&e they put me straight on antibiotics even though I told them I think it gynae related and I am allergic to penicillin?? 5 weeks later liver failed due to antibiotic poisoning!!! Now have ibs symptoms and still got the pain I had originally!!!

So saw my first ever gynae couple weeks ago and sent straight for scan , nothing found! In for lap ( my first one ) in three weeks time at Medway hospital gynae department( god knows what there like?? ). Fingers crossed there find something as I cannot have this control my life any longer!! She says as she laying on sofahot water bottle on belly lol
