IBS and the heatwave

Is anyone else finding that their IBS is worse since this hot weather started? For ages I`ve had a tendency towards constipation but since the weather changed it has switched to diarrhea and I`ve had to take loperamide. I haven`t changed my diet but might have been drinking a bit more water

Hi. I wondered if it was the heat that has made my ibs worse lately. I haven't changed my diet either.

Yes I have found my ibsd worse in the hot weather and also wonder if it was because of all the water I was drinking.

I would say it was the water as if you have IBS C, which I have, they say to keep drinking water. I have been drinking a lot more water and found it much easier to pass stools.

Hi Janke, I dread this time of year because my IBS-D tends to be worse in hot weather. I'm wondering if it is a de-hydration issue which requires more than just plain water. Recently I have put a sachet of Dioralyte in water when having an episode of IBS-D and my gut settled quicker. I also drink flavoured soya milk rather than water which seems to help.

Thanks August - that`s worse remembering. I took so much loperamide 2 days ago that I`ve now become constipated!
