To have found this forum. Another day of excruciating pain and trips to the bathroom. Currently on a daily dose of lactulose but it just isn't working as well. Will be so glad for the support received here and to be able to offer some too! How we suffer with this and how lonely it can feel. Good to meet you all!

Hello,I was on lactulose, never worked for me,neither did anything else I was prescribed

Turn to soluble fibre, not insoluble fibre. Google/search engine, lots there. Also golden linseed

It certainly has helped me,not perfect but better than I was.

Get some Mag07 by aerobic life...I tried everything for years....Read reviews. Ama zon, cheaper, or Vitamin Shoppe. No chemicals, not even a vitamin. Works everymorning, no cramping, sleep like a baby!

Watch your dose, if you are using as stool softener it really works. I have to go get band ligation from hemerroids due to constipation, this stuff has been a life saver, and no chemicals, cramping...it is actually good for u! Just make sure to take 2 hours after eating with a large glass of water...you will just fall asleep and get up and go...I do not consider myself constipated anymore! after all the crummy suppositories, enemas ect, ect. If you read a bad review...they did not take it correctly...or they have a hidious diet. Good Luck! It works! all the time!

How are you supposed to take it? Can't take at night cause I take thyroid meds then. Can I take in the morning? It sounds great! Thanks. I had banding from hemoroids too. Bad polyps in lower colon ulcers diverticulosis and IBS. nothing seems to work on a regular basis. Will try this

Just take your thyroid meds so the are in your bloodstream earlier. Take the mago7 two hours after anything...just watch your dose, start out slow ...like two caps to start...it really works consistently!

Good , best luck!!!!! Cheri get my banding on Wed....not too excited to get this done... Forward to when I am healed!!!!!!!! I will stay on the mag O7 and maybe have a quasi normal life again!!!!!!!!!

Do you take the pills or the powder?

I take the capsules,...much easier...if I had a late dinner din...I have my son wake me to take them, with a large glass of water, u will fall asleep again, as magnesium helps that. Usually works in 4-6 hours, ...u just have to find the way it works best for you. Just always 2 hours after eating or meds.

Capsules are just easier, if I think I might need more, I will cut a capsule in half, and save the other half for the next night, use the end of a capsule to compact it. Next nite the stuff still works. This does not go into your blood stream as a vitamin of it would. Read up on it's ROS delivery, it's basically in and out. Helps get rid of toxins and bacteria too. I take probiotics, simple one in the day, usually lunch, solar Ray carrot based acidophilus. Just found out something facinating...I will?l not spell it correctly, but if you get gastritis, or reflux look up Salicylic Food Sensitivities. I can not take any aspirin or nsaids, I was eating every fruit and vegetable on the very high list...boy, eating is a chore these days!!!!

Do the low fodmap diet for years...but I do have this sensitiviy too, very interesting.

I have been on medication for constipation since I was in nappies. I cannot remember ever having a bowel movement that wasn't medically induced. Each medication lasts only so long for me because my body gets used to it and the medication then no longer works. I was early 20's when I had lactulose ( I'm 49 now) and it never worked. I took it as advised and slowly over a few days my stomach swelled until I was admitted to hospital where the lactulose was changed and eventually things got moving. I found movecol to be an excellent medication, it gave me 12 good years ( of the most normal bowel movements I have ever had) before my body got used to it. Manecac also gave me around ten good years so I would recommend you try either of those. Everyone's different- it's hard finding what suits you- good luck!

Hi there,

I have 2 posts on constipation you may find of interest:

This one on magnesium, which I have found very effective: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

And this one on the potential cause of your constipation that is often overlooked: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

I used to take senna but it was way too weak, GP tried me on lactulose but it gave me extreme stomach pains, i'm now on laxido powder it took a while to work but definitely softens the stools and makes it easier to go, I take it every night in a glass of water

Last August I started a soluble fibre diet and golden linseed at night. Not perfect but been a life saver for me at 74 years. The insoluble fibre was just making things worse.research in google or safari, and good luck

I was advised against taking lactulose as its known for causing bloating especially if u have ibs .i tipped all mine out that the doctor gave me and i also stopped taking omeprozole as that has the same issues as above.
