ill from a young age....

Hi .

When I was about 6 I Had abdominal pain and bloating, the doctors said trapped wind, and it went. I continued to have this on and off for a while, and I had a lot of other symptoms too. I had fatigue sometimes, dizziness, diarrhea and constipation, and malaise. I never really thought much of this, but I'm 16 now and about 6 months ago it got worse, I get headaches a lot, really constipated all the time now, dizzy sometimes, swollen glands for a long long long time, fatigue and all the symptoms I had before just worse!

I know that I have a bacterial issue, maybe SIBO and I was thinking it could be due to my poor diet, which caused a flare in the last few months.

What I want to know is, could this have been bacterial imbalance all along, with the symptoms i had? What would cause me to have SIBO? I don't think i have crohns or diverticulitis, or any of the things they say apart from a very poor diet. Maybe candida and SIBO?

Please help xx

Yes it could have been bacterial imbalance all along. It is possible to have SIBO and Candida. I could see I had Candida from the specific symptoms of having sugar cravings. I had digestive problems from an early age too.

But something caused that imbalance. I had Candida for many years before realizing it. Things that I think contributed to mine were:

- being bottle fed (processed milk with probable fructose additives) and the resulting fructose and lactose intolerance. This messed up my digestion and helped create bacterial imbalance

- tension at home (parents fighting all the time)

- tension at school

- eating lots of sugar loaded and processed food and not knowing the damage they were doing

- comfort eating (regularly consuming food outside meals)

Hi Alison. Have you successfully treated candida? I've been reading up on it a lot I really feel I do suffer with it myself I seemed to get every symptom on the list I've read so much about it online & people saying you can never successfully cure it? I did try doing a cleanse..well just cutting out sugar but it seemed just so hard I majorly cut down but didn't really see a difference I'm not still doing it now though. Thanks

Yes I have. It wasn't a total IBS cure, but relieved symptoms. I found I had much less bloating and could eat a wider diet.

From what I can see, SIBO seems more difficult to treat effectively. I found Candida relatively easy to treat. The trick is not falling back into a bad diet, because it can start off again.

I wrote this article about what worked for me: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...
