Hello Everyone! My name is David. I have suffered from chronic fatigue for many years. I have recently tested positive for Methan Dominant SIBO. I have started a herbal and lifestyle protocol to clear out the bacterial overgrowth and get my life back. Please feel free to follow my blog and monitor my progress. I will answer what I can and share the knowledge I have learnt over the years to help you find your root cause and how to start healing.

Such an interesting and helpful post - thank you. I too shall be following your progress and wish you all the very best. I also have IBS C and am aware that anxiety about it compounds the problem and then off I go in a vicious circel. Do you get anxious about your condition? I'm sure being proactive as you are is a good way to help ease the helpless feeling one gets....

dh2909 in reply toRozzy46

I find that certain foods cause me to become very anxious. Going on a low fodmap diet for the last 2 weeks has been very helpful. If I have a large intake of cheese I also get anxiety.

I suspect the reasons for this is the fodmaps feed the bacteria. The bacteria then produce toxins and cause symptoms. As for the cheese, the casein protein can be very inflamitory and the inflammation could be driving symptoms also.

Thank you for the kind comments.

If you have any questions I will share with you what I have learned over the years

Dave. I also believe SIBO and most/all other conditions/symptoms (incl thyroid, but may need to whisper it here!) are only part of an holistic condition. My view (and of many others) is overall gut status is the driver. Hence I've had 3 microbiome tests to date besides SIBO & leaky gut.

Oliver, I am in total agreement with you. I feel there is far too much evidence to support the idea that the digestive function is at the heart of most health conditions. And we must find our unique healing path to correct them. Have you had parasite/candida tests done since your sibo test has been negative.

There is a 3rd possible sibo diagnosis (although rare) its hydrogen sulfide sibo. I'm not confident on testing procedures for this but if you have ruled out a candida/parasite infection. Are sure you have no food intolerances and test negative on hydrogen/methane sibo. It is another option to pursue.

Dr ruscio provides some insight into it here

Dave. No further tests since the Sibo - which was actually rated POSITIVE by the lab although I am dubious, as per my PM to you. However, my latest microbiome test included candida (but negative i.e. below detectable levels) and parasites (positive i.e. high, for Blastocystis hominis). The consultant involved in presenting the results appeared unconcerned about blasto, stating "OK for some people". Despite that view, I may take further, natural antibiotics intermittently in future. Note that, in the past year or so, Ive had some of those that you listed eg Oregano, Berberine.

I hear what you say about H2S Sibo, have considered previously and will read the article you sent. However, as you know from my PM, I am currently wary about Sibo tests - and your lack of confidence on H2S increases my cynicism!. Also my symptoms are relatively minor - if indeed it is Sibo.

Dave. After now reading the H2S-SIBO article you sent (thanks), it hasnt prompted me to do anything else at this stage. My SIBO results may indicate a SIBO or LIBO H2S issue, eg a hydrogen flat-line after 160 mins, and/or some symptoms. However, the understanding of this phenomenon seems new and there is no specific test yet. If I have any more detailed points, I'll PM you.

Keep me/us posted along your SIBO journey.

dh, review these links. Thiamine needs magnesium to become bioactive. The forms of thiamine to learn the pros and cons of each are benfotiamine, TTFD, sulbutiamine and thiamine hydrochloride. Consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.

Unfortunately we have been conditioned to believe that antibiotics are always the answer to bacteria.

In sibo this is not the case, and there is usually multiple underlying factors that have to be corrected before any herbals or antibiotics will help remove the overgrowth.

Taking antibiotics and herbs before these underlying conditions are resolved can make the bacteria more resistant and harder to remove in the future.

Kind regards

David

Oscar091, have you used the probiotic s. boulardii? It's available at most pharmacies. My reply to dh2909 above contains information to control SIBO that should interest you in addition to the link below. Consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.

I have severe SIBO and I think this was made much worse because I took a whole lot of probiotics which I believe are now stuck in my small intestine. I actually think probiotics are in some cases adding to the SIBO explosion we are seeing.

Probiotics have become a "gold rush" filling shelves with high priced bottles of empty promises hyped by billions and billions as Carl Sagan would say. Lost among them are honest products intended to "get you back on the road" after an event impacting the balance in the gut. What is and isn't in those capsules, pills and potions only and independent lab could tell and that unknown can become just a waste of money or worsen an already bad condition. The watch word is investigate before you invest your health care dollar.

The Low FODMAP diet didn't help me either. I've also tried the Fast Tract diet which I thought would help but it didn't. I wish there was a simple solution to this!
