I suffered with IBS d for years. I tried all the usual meds., no success. My doctor gave me Nortriptyline. I just take the smallest dose of 10 mg each night and now at last I am pain and diarrhoea free. Hope this will help someone.

IBS d relief
I have the same thing IBS-D I have tried to talk to my Doctor about it. For many years due to I take a lot of medicine for my depression and anxiety,PTSD and bipolar and all of the other things I have been diagnosed I have she doesn't want to put me on many more medicine. I think if they could help me get this under control I would not have so anxiety about leaving my house. I won't be afraid of leaving my house everyday. What should I do too get them to understand I need medicine for my problem. Help me please.
I'm so sorry that you have to take so much medicine. Could you try changing to Nortriptyline instead of other antidepressants? If this helped you with your IBS d problem you might feel a lot better and not need the stronger tablets. Talk again to your doctor. Don't give up. There must be something that can help you. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.
Hi yes I was on Amitrytilyne; you get a good nights sleep and 10 mg is just enough
Blessings
My friend is on Amitriptyline and she has also had relief from her IBS. I'm not sure of the difference between Amitriptyline and Nortriptyline but I think they both have some sort of ingredient that helps with IBS d. Anyway it's always worth trying to see if they help.
Have you tried changing your diet rather than taking medication
Yes. I have tried all the diets, plus cutting out all the foods that cause intolerance. Nothing helped me until at last my doctor said try Nortriptyline. For me it was like a miracle. I feel great and can go out without worrying where the next toilet is.
